    Thanks, I'll check those out.

    Orange in a Pedal

None of those are what I'm asking for. I should have been more clear in my initial post. Orange bass amps have their own distortion circuit. I'm looking for just that bass distortion/blend circuit in a pedal. I just want the overdrive circuit. All of those are compressors, fuzz, switches...

    Orange in a Pedal

Has Orange ever made a pedal that is just the distortion circuit from their amps? If so, what was it? If not, what's the closest thing to that Orange distortion tone you've found in a pedal?

ESP LTD F-415FM - only for metal or good for funk / soul / blues?

You can do anything with the EQ system on that bass.

    Alternate fret material

Hmm, that's good feedback. This is what I was hoping for. There are some things here that I'll have to look into and how to mitigate them. Thanks.

    Alternate fret material

Why do you think I mind soft material wearing down quickly. That's not a problem for me.

Once I find an el cheapo on ebay I'm going to start working on the routing for o-ring idea.

Taped frets or some sort of hard rubberization

That's why you shouldn't be part of this discussion. YOU are talking about some grander scheme. I'm just talking about what I like.

Taped frets or some sort of hard rubberization

Why does that even matter. I'm pretty sure the OP is a solo kind of guy and doesn't care about his microtones being off of the nobody else he's playing with.

Taped frets or some sort of hard rubberization

Sort of both. With a fretless, you are limited on attack. Depending on how you "fret" the note you can get some good range in "mwah" all the way to "mmwwwahhhhhh". Bu that's it. WIth normal steel frets, you get even less control. In "Boom" or "booszzzzsooo". With taped frets I have a...

    Alternate fret material

I'm moving this discussion over here since I think we can probably get better discussion of application than whether or not being off a few cents is worth the experience. from Taped frets or some sort of hard rubberization There are some good ideas over there, but a lot of dissension and talk...

Taped frets or some sort of hard rubberization

Yeah, sure. Let's move it over to luthier. How do we do that? Or do I just need to start another thread over there.

Taped frets or some sort of hard rubberization

For "Pi" no. That was just a beast to play. I had to do a lot of note cutting on that. Check out Song 6 on Vaciliating dances. (First of all, that bass is completely clean, so if you are getting fuzz or distortion, then use better speakers/headphones. It's way down there in the 20-40 Hz...
