To tweak or not to tweak, that is the question.

Thanks for all the feedback folks.

To tweak or not to tweak, that is the question.

Right, I get that. While important to attempt to establish a baseline (see what I did there?), I'd also love to see more of the tonal options of the head featured. Sometimes, I get a sense that it's "frowned" upon to fiddle the knobs. I do realized some players simply like to plug in a play...

To tweak or not to tweak, that is the question.

I've been looking at amp reviews, and occurred to me that most folks barely turn any knobs and prefer to use them flat! Is that the preferred way you like to run your rig or do you like to dig into the controls? These companies put so much effort into customizing their heads only for a lot of...

Installing an Aguilar OBP-3 preamp in an Ibanez Premium bass

I love my OBP-3. I put it inside my Carvin 2 years or so ago (Mahogany body, maple/walnut neck with single coil soap bars). I keep the treble cut, boost low mids a smidge and pretty much keep it that way. A little boost of bass from time to time for good measure and you're set.

    Nathan East- Reverence

Has anyone else heard his second solo album? I like it better than the first since it features more "up front"/lead bass playing. His tone, just wow. It still amazes me that a guy with so many chops always remains restrained and tasteful in his playing. I think he plays the groove on his...

    A Nathan East sighting!

A few years ago during Herbie's Imagine Project tour Nathan East played some of the dates and Marcus Miller played some. When I saw the tour, Marcus was on bass. Killer show but lots of "experimental" type of music. I guess when you've been playing as long as Herbie you have to switch it up...

Lots of Sires in the Classifieds, what's up?

I like mine, but I've only played a few Fender style J basses. Is it the best J style bass ever? Probably not. Is it the best J style bass for the money? Probably. If you've had a ton of higher end J basses, it may not wow (just a guess) as it''s just another Fender copy. The difference to...

    New Sire P Basses!

I just saw these too. A new P-J and a V7 model with quilted top/headstock based on the original V7. Interesting

Anyone go 5 string and not go back?

That's me. I don't think I'd ever really consider owning a 4 string at this point UNLESS I ever desire to get a classic P Bass for Motown stuff. To me, there's no disadvantage to a good 5 string, only advantages. I would say slapping is the only thing that takes some getting used to so you...

    Carvin Icon 5 strings Upgrade

I put an OBP-3 in mine along with the Carvin Rad-Js (single coils). It sounds MUCH better if you ask me.

Sire V7 or Fender American Professional

Agreed. The tuners work great, they just don't feel great.

Sire V7 or Fender American Professional

The tuners and bridge on the Sire definitely feel cheap so I won't say it has the greatest parts quality but they do their job and man, that tone! One day, I may replace the tuners with something better but for now, I'm not worried about it. The crew I've been rehearsing with had an old, beat...

Mike Harrington with Brian Culbertson FUNK!!

I've seen about 4 of BC's shows since 2014. Rodney Jones was incredible- super funky, nice fills and played lots of licks on the upbeat songs but could groove his butt off. If you listen to the 20th Anniversary Live double CD you'll see his chops. He was a really great player. I just saw...

Android tablet for gigging/practicing: help getting set up

Thanks for thread. I've replaced my Nexus 7 (2013) with a Galaxy S 8.4. It's slightly larger than the Nexus 7 so not sure if that'll be good enough for you but it works pretty well and I'm in the same boat of trying to plan out my set-up ahead of gigging in a few months.
