Mike Harrington with Brian Culbertson FUNK!!

Mike was always one of my favorite guys in the local bass hangouts, monster player whose toured with Alexander Zonjac, and Jeff Lorber among others. Anyway he's now holding down the low end for the Brian Culbertson's funk tour, I don't think Brian could do much better.

Trust me on this one it's been Mike Harrington for at least the last two months. I'll be seeing him Saturday at a Detroit Bass hang, the tour ended last weekend.

I wonder what happened to Rodney?! He was playing with Brian when they came to Norfolk, VA in July.

Edit: I just checked his Facebook page and he says he resigned from the BC band. Wow. Didn't say why though.

All I know is Mike has been posting on FB for a couple of months about the tour. He is certainly one of the finer bass players around town, and in a town that had Robert Hurst, Ralphe Armstrong, Nate Watts, and Ron Carter among others that's saying something.

Yeah, I actually like his style over Rodney's to be honest. I liked Lamar Jones too. He played on the first live cd.

I've seen about 4 of BC's shows since 2014. Rodney Jones was incredible- super funky, nice fills and played lots of licks on the upbeat songs but could groove his butt off. If you listen to the 20th Anniversary Live double CD you'll see his chops. He was a really great player.

I just saw the Funk! show earlier this month with Mike Harrington. He's a different type of player, seems to stay more in the pocket where Rodney kind of branched out and jumped out front of the mix. Mike was definitely less "flashy" but at the same time, just killin'. That's my take on their styles. Either way, BC always puts on a great show. He's underrated and one of the baddest dudes on the scene if you ask me.
