Changing your strings can bring that tone out that you're after. Getting a really bright set of strings will make your bass sound nice and crisp but you may want that pre amp so that you have a bit more control. On my bass that I use for funk I use "everly B52's" and they do me wonders for...

Why upgrade when you have a perfect bass for the styles you're playing! Marcus is able to get a whole range of sounds out of his bass so that means in theory you will be able to too! What amp do you play out of?? That may be the upgrade you want to look into.

One that I just recently came across (and bought) that no one really has much info on is Merica Basses.

MIJ jazz bass specials are such nice basses to play. I've got the "power special" with active electronics and I love that thing. This was actually my first bass and I still use it on a regular basis!

Does anyone know about these basses?? I can't find any info on them except for one previous post on talkbass. So if anyone knows anything more about them could you please let me know. Thanks.
