Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Part 9!

Interesting, last night I started to use the passive jack due to the topic coming up on this thread, I only used the active jack before because I felt it was giving me a little less gain on my hotter bass.

Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Part 9!

I'm hoping this is just the fx loop thing I keep reading about but... Was playing late last night low volume so as not to disturb the neighborhood. I mean real low volume, low enough that the fan was pissing me off. I hear a small pop and now there is static. Notes still come through but...

Mesa Walkabout - what tubes are you using?

I have a GE 5 star grey plate 5751 in V-1. Change was huge, particularly playing through the 12 scout cab. Way less gain, much cleaner, warmer sound. Amp still gets plenty of fuzz if I need it. The V-2 slot is a Fisher 12ax-7 basically a re-branded Mullard. Didn't notice much of a...

    Walkabout Scout VS Ampeg V4BH

I find my walkabout is never loud enough with the stock 12" cab at least for my tone. If I'm ok with significant fur no problem. I rock a divided by 13 4x12 with the scout head and it sounds fantastic!

I would like to do my own amp face plate graphics....

I used to work in a lab that built R&D power supplies. We would take a hand drawn mock up and the front of the power supply to a trophy/engraving shop. They did a great job. Very cheap.

    Ampeg BA Series bass combos

I used to have a BA115HP. Worked great for about two years. Started to get a add sound at higher volumes and then cut out. Local amp tech could not fix. Turned it into an extension cabinet. Thing is my drummer also bought the same amp for our practice space. His is now doing the same...

They rock. Solid amp. It's what Aston Family Man Barrett uses.

    Aston Barrett

Just saw the Wailers featuring the man himself in Santa Cruz on Monday. Got a good look at his set up. Two Eden WT800 heads, one feeding a Eden 4x10, second feeding an Eden 1x15, with a Fender Jazz bass. Did way more playing with his thumb than I would have guessed.

    Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread 8

So I have been on a quest to get a little less gain out of my walkabout. Tried a few different 12AX7's, what did the trick as a NOS GE 5 star 5751. Not only dies the amp have more clean headroom, it still gets just the right amount of break up with the gain cranked and still has the glorious...

Confused about low wattage with boutique amps

It's a bass cab not a guitar cabinet. I'm curious why a 4x12 would not be a good choice when 4x10's are recommended all over the place on TB often with the "there is no replacement for displacement" line. 40" compared to 48" isn't all that much different but it is almost a full speaker larger.

Confused about low wattage with boutique amps

Depending on who I am playing with I either use the mesa scout 1x12 for rock and I have been using an ampeg 1x15 for reggae.
