Fist fight at band practice

I'm just not seeing the glory or romanticism in this story...just because your drummer is a female that makes it ok? When your drummer grows up hopefully she'll come to realize that criminal assault charges are real and come with costly defense fees. Really, there's no excuse for that type of behavior in today's world, especially among a small group of people who have come together to create music. If that were my drummer she'd be looking for a new band. Maybe the singer as well.

Long van ride home at the end of a tour. My usual seat was just behind the driver. I'm sitting there eating a bag of Cheetos. The guitarist sitting next to me had a 1/2 bottle of Jagermeister in him, and thought it would be hilarious if he just smacked my bag of Cheetos from underneath and sent my delicious, cheesy snacks flying all over the van.

It was kinda hilarious, but I still pummeled him mercilessly until he stopped fighting back.

Singer says I haven't worked on it. Drummer's response is to throw sticks at singer. Singer yells at drummer who threw **** at him. Drummer punches singer.

All of you who side with the drummer here can stay the hell away from me, musically or otherwise. I don't like what you did or said, so I get to get violent with you? Drummer could easily have ended up in jail, and, if she doesn't change, almost certainly will.

And THAT is something that will be "deserved."

YMMV, but as the guy who has to sing the lyrics, I prefer to write them myself. I dont mind input from others, but Ive found that a lot of lyrics others have tried to contribute tend
And I agree with the sentiment that you cant always rush writing them. It can take time to come up with the right words to express a thought.

Our band has this one song, everything is great except the lyrics (that I wrote). Ive put the song on hold until I can come up with something better. Now that we've finished the show we were rehearsing for we can get back to working on it tonight.

IME, usually the first verse and/or chorus come to me the easiest. If we're writing a new song I'll have a few lines down before the end of practice. If I havent come up with more the next practice I'll repeat verse 1 whenever a verse is needed.

Many times , espicially when originally writing the mmusic.....the Singer would sing Mary had a little lamb or something and come up with a melody.

I tend to come up with melodies before all the words come to me.
If I dont have words I'll improvise them and mumble syllables where I feel words should be. This has lead to some new lines that come up while practicing the song.

Not having lyrics is not an excuse not to practice a song, as there are many other elements to a song that need going over.

But afterwards the singer sporting a fat lip and the drummer with a welt on her cheek we were all drinking beers and laughing and having the best time we ever had playing music together.
Anyone had this happen before?
Guess just sometimes people need to blow off steam to relax.

Sorry, but in my opinion, nothing justifies a physical assault. It sounds to me like your drummer had very poor role models when she was younger and could use some counseling. It's okay to whine and complain and even call a person names (as childish as that is), but a physical attack is a sign of some deeper-rooted psychological issues. Physical attacks are for trashy lowlifes (the Jerry Springer types).

And to answer your question, no. In the 41 years I have been playing bass in bands, I have never had a physical altercation occur in any band I was in. I don't socialize with that variety.

I've often wondered what it would be like to live a perfect life, way above the fray. It sounds kind of boring to be honest.

I've wondered that too (not "often" like you, but occasionally). I can cuss to the point of embarrassing a sailor, but there's a huge difference between mouthing off, and physically assaulting another person (which is against the law......gee....I wonder why.)

Unfortunately, we have way too many humans crawling around on this planet that don't seem to know the difference (or weren't taught that difference by their parents). In my book, parents don't automatically deserve respect just because they are parents (any couple can get together and phuck to make a human). Parents have to earn respect based on their performance as good parents. It sounds to me like the drummer had some parents who would have barely received a passing grade, if that.

I was surprised at how that ultimately turned out. As long as fisticuffs don't become a regular part of the creative process, no harm, no foul, I guess.

The singer hit the drummer,

At band practice tonight!"

Throw in a couple of verses and a guitar solo... bammo - your next #13 smash hit. (Let's not fool ourselves into thinking this could ever be a Top 10 hit...)

I haven't experience any fist fights, but I have dealt with an unreliable lead singer and diva drummers. my one problem with my brother's band is the drummer. he has be the most surreal guy I have ever met. this guy was a bad influence on everyone. he oftenly b****es over the stupidest things and never let's it go. he just had to hold a grudge on it. and during it's last 2 years, the band was slowly dying because of the new musical they went with. long story short, my brother's band was once a totally awesome band. we played as a trio and we played awesome originals and some cool covers on the side and we've always did a spectacular show. we didn't really needed anything else to be better. apparently years later, the drummer took over the band with undesirable creative control and has converted the band into a typical cover band. what's worst is that he keeps picking cover songs that doesn't fit us at all and he had the idea of hiring a lead singer who not only doesn't fit in the band, but she's also unreliable when it comes to rehearsals. because of this everyone lost interest in the band except the drummer. we all took interest in being in other bands and we leave the drummer out in the cold. finally my brother decided to disband the group and we all went our separate ways. even though the band is no more, my brother did talk to me about being in a band once again. I don't know when, but I am looking forward to being in a band with him again. my brother and I have always been a team, and hopefully with the new band, we will not make the same mistake twice. the moral of my story, when it comes to band, always stick with the band's original formula. never change it for anything else just when things are going good.

Hilarious story. I also find it fairly amusing all the people who think the drummer is justified in attacking somebody... I can only imagine the thread if somebody's drummer attacked them, man or woman.

I would say the singer is a dick and the drummer is a psycho. Words are just that, act like an adult.
