    Double Bass Fingerboard-eating gut strings

It absolutely depends on what type of wood the fingerboard is made of. Plain gut and round wound strings in general are probably more abrasive. That said, I’ve played with gut and wound gut on my bass for most of the last 22 years and the only dressing I’ve had done to my ebony board was for...

    Double Bass Spirocores... dammit

I too have been leaning into a full set of S42 for the last couple of months. I bought this set new and have been diligently learning how to play them. In the past I always got frustrated and bailed out without realizing what it actually takes to make them sound so iconic. It's the nuance of...

Any sense of the timeline for the Neptunium/Finally v4 update?

Double Bass Yamahiko Double Bass Pickup

Hmm, I thought I ordered my 2n2 (10db attenuated) from the website but it looks like I emailed directly, sorry for the misdirection. The email conversation was prompt and the transaction was easy though.

Double Bass Yamahiko Double Bass Pickup

He has a few different values available, there is more info on his website. It’s probably a good idea to read the few pages regarding the various resistance options.

Are you saying that the DI can work as a passive DI in bypass mode or does it still need power? Specifically asking regarding the Finally v3 and Neptunium.

Double Bass How to handle big rock backline combos with and upright bass?

If I’m traveling locally and using my bass, I do this quite a bit with my amp and back line cabinets. For everything else (flying, festivals, etc) I bring an Fdeck HPF just in case.

Double Bass How to handle big rock backline combos with and upright bass?

If you can, take the time to learn some basic eq fundamentals. Having a preamp with a DI will help with FOH but if you don’t have a monitor, it’s up to you to make the backline rig usable. Don’t expect “flat” on the amp to be a transparent sound, you’ll most likely have to cut quite a bit of the...

Double Bass Spirocore Weich vs Perpetual Starks

This is my current setup for the last couple months. The stark perpetual EA replaced regular perpetual EA. They are a great match both pizz and arco on my bass. The starks have a bit more bloom paired with the gut DG.

In my case, I’m looking for a simple tube buffer/DI for piezo pickups on upright bass. I backline basses when I travel and having just one box that provides decent saturation and harmonics straight into FOH is the goal. The simplest, most comprehensive one pedal solution is what I’m hoping for...

Doesn’t really matter to me, it would be by hand not foot.

Hypothetically, how difficult would it be to rewire the dry/pre switch in the Finally3 to be a mute switch? Obviously with the pre being always on?

Double Bass Which strings should I purchase for my small bass?

I had a 39” mensure bass with S42 medium Spirocores and the tension was great. I would think any of the popular 3/4 scale strings would work fine but I would recommend the medium gauge, not light.

    Double Bass Perpetuals - Stark/Medium/Mixed?

Yes, but both the Aquila Gold Springs E&A and the Pirastro Gold Slaps E&A were too low tension for my bass
