    Why the P bass obsession

I started using a precision bass because I wanted something that was solid, easy to use, easy to maintain and plenty of options to repair/modify at my leisure without having bells and whistles that I do not need. Secondly you can have a precision bass repaired anywhere on the globe for peanuts...

    Why aren't there Stingray/Sterling clones?

I'm with blindrabbit. At the price, I could find nothing wrong with em. I'm tempted to pick one up used just so I can drop a set of split coils in it and see what kind of monster I can make. edit: and like I said in my previous post, I've tried MM/ST style basses all over the map and could...

Is it important to own multiple/different amps?

I'd say one good one and a potential back up will do you. That or one good amp and a practice amp or smaller combo just to make your life a little easier.

just wanna say, ampeg svt 400= crap

I really wasn't blown away by the svt350h-a solid state build. Really I've liked the V4 line better but those are rare these days.

    Opinions on Frankenstein Basses

Pretty much everything I own right now is a Frankenstein of some sort. My current work horse is a '98 precision body with a refurbished 1964 jazz bass neck. I'm about to drop some lace sensors in, replace the pick guard and change the bridge out. That will a perfect weapon of choice for me and...

How to deal with items "disappearing" at a gig backstage?

Roadies. Get big sweaty bearded Viking types to stand around and watch everything you do. Get Viking types beer. Vikings love beer.

    Not detuning to guitarist

Its not a must by any means. I generally tune a whole step down as a matter of preference and my guitarist is in some weird drop/bomb tuning. Using standard or close to it works so much better because it keeps the bass tight and clear instead of a flubby pile of muddy crap or having to delve...

yesterday's trip to west l.a. guitar center

To be fair, the nearest GC to me in Grand Rapids is pretty good for guitar stuff...not that it helps me. They have one of the best repair guys in the area but he's usually weeks out even for just doing set ups. I've been interested in checking out a Sam Ash but there isn't anything near me...

yesterday's trip to west l.a. guitar center

The last three GCs I've went to have been pathetic for bass stuff at all. A few poorly cared for Fenders, a few overpriced gibsons and a small quantity of low tier crap followed by about ten of the same el cheapo combos. Thumbs down.

quality bass for little bitty woman

I recommend a mustang as well. They have a tone somewhere between a jazz and a precision, an incredibly comfortable neck and you can pick up the squier models for under 300 bucks. The VM pick ups are nice and throaty. If you can find one, the univox high fliers were a great bass too. Getting...

    NBD: Aerodyne P/J

I really hate painted head stocks and yet I'm very tempted to get an aerodyne. Very nice score!

Are you a Goldilocks bass player?

Ya know, I've been battling strap length for a while. For many moons I've been doing the gunslinger routine but now I think I'm coming up, across the chest a little more like David Wm Sims from the jesus lizard....problem is that my precision bass doesn't fit my enormous monkey chest and beer...

Are you a Goldilocks bass player?

Balance is about the pickiest thing for me. Also, I can be incredibly picky about headstock design. Other than that, I'm a neanderthal.

How important is Slap Bass in a players repertoire?

When I started picking up the bass I learned very rudimentary slap stuff (basically what I could glean from watching flea and reading the odd article) I never excelled at it and pretty quickly figured out that it was cool but I was never going to be a funky player but it got me to explore hammer...
