Such low tension on the low E / B strings

For a long time I bought individual strings to create my own 'balanced tension' sets, in gauges 40-55-75-100-125. After a while I decided I was way overthinking it, like I do most things, and started buying standard sets. My playing experience is not very different, and my purchasing...

    Starting a Clone Bassic15 Build

Nice work! But I want a lever to rotate those slats 90 degrees to cover the speaker during transport, then open up to play :)

    Gene Hackman R.I.P.

Lots of great performances. I'll add one that hasn't been mentioned yet: Herod, the sheriff / town owner / gunfighter in The Quick and the Dead. Such an evil character, and he totally nailed it.

    Bass setup question

I follow the exact procedure and measurements listed for "low" action in this setup guide from Roger Sadowsky: How to Set Up Your Bass - Sadowsky Guitars Remember, though, that it's a personal thing. I play with a light touch and prefer a low action; lots of people play harder and like it a bit...

What are you reading Chapter 4

Just Finished "The Once and Future King" by TH White (about King Arthur, Merlin, etc.). It had been on my shelf for years and I never got around to reading it until this winter. I highly recommended it. It's fun fantasy fiction, and also a deep look into the strengths and failures of human...

things you bought that didn't work out for you

Lots of motorcycle gear. Jackets, gloves, helmets, boots, etc. When I started about 10 years ago it took a while to learn what kind of riding I like to do. Then it took a few more years (and some $$$) to figure out what I Iike in terms of gear. Stuff that didn't work out for me: Leather...

Guitar Center Daily Pick: Save $.00!

I was at my local motorcycle dealer the other day, and the price tag on one of the new bikes exclaimed in bold red type: Customer cash back $0 Financing Credit $0

    Anyone here write flash fiction?

Never heard of it before, but I'm interested to try it! On a somewhat related note, several years ago here on TB there was some ridiculous troll thread, and someone responded with an ultra-short story about a woman meeting her estranged father in a diner, totally unrelated to the thread. It...

L.A. people…how are the fires impacting you?

Late fall is actually the fire season in southern California. It hasn't rained all summer so the vegetation is dry, and there's a wind phenomenon called 'Santa Ana' that whips up any fires that start. I lived there as a kid but moved away 25 years ago. Sending prayers to all.

    Whatcha watching?

Also just watched season one. Not perfect, but I liked it a lot. The details, like the "patois" language spoken by the Belters, make it very immersive.

Bands that changed genres(punk to metal) and went back or changed totally.

The Cult were big when I was in college, and I always found it kind of funny the way they were supposed to fit into the genres. To me they sounded and looked very close to metal. But the local radio station that played their songs was the "indie / alternative" station that played Oingo Boingo...
