That is a German Fretless Taranaki bass. Only one made. Sounds fantastic but the neck was a little too big for me. I love the small necks on the SWB's (I have rather small hands and a little rheumatic). I now also have some Ibanez SR basses and found them very comfortable playing and good...

I have DiMarzio DP123BK pups in my SWB-1. They have so very very much more power then the original pups and the sound is great.

Why is that beginner stuff? I wouldn't call Gary Willis a beginner. The first fretless SWB's had lines. Later only dots on the side of the neck. I think it is cheaper without lines?

I have the same problem. But I found the Ibanez SRF700 (which is btw 3,3kg and despite it's 34"), because of its design, as easy playable as my short scale bass.

Ibanez basses are 3kg.

Because of the short lower horn it will slip away from the lap easily. I often use an anti-slip cloth on my thigh to prevent this.
