I can only comment on the Stiletto 5, as that is the only one I have played. I love the sound and feel of that bass. I also have a schecter guitar and I can attest that it is a POS, but the stiletto really performs. It reminds me a bit of an active J bass. Plus, Nick McMaster plays one.

My strategy, and the one I encourage from everyone else in every band I have been in, is to pack up your stuff first and then help everyone else until the car is loaded. I do make exceptions if you are talking to fans/promoters/venue owners, those conversations tend to keep the gigs coming.

I picked up a vintage 1048h the other day, and I am really confused by the presence of the XLR jack on the back. Is it a pass through for an unamplified signal? Was XLR used for powered signals when this was made?

I've used a few different ZOOM field recorders from a few different generations. All of them are very effective, especially if you take the time to learn to use them. Obviously, there is only so much post processing you can do, but I 100% recommend them for live recording, personal reference...

As long as you have a good input signal, you can probably rely on your DAW for most of your reverb and compression tools. Ableton has been quite good IME, but Pro-Tools, Cubase and even audacity all have quite workable tools. If you start recording drums, you'll probably want some tube preamps...

Also, Forest is awesome and has been a major inspiration in my fretless playing. His tone in that video is straight Jaco IMO.

I use to push low-end heavily rhythmic sections. If I'm providing a counter melody to the guitar I prefer a cleaner tone, but if I am focusing more on driving the drums or sitting under a groove I tend to kick in the overdrive.

I also play an Eden 410XLT, and am quite taken with it. Out of any 4x10 I have played, it does the best job of rounding out my low end. I can't use any other 4x10 I've tried with my 5 string. It sometimes takes a bit of EQ to bring up my mids to a suitable level.

I have played on some flatwounds, and I will likely give em another shot. The tone control is always all the way down. This definitely reduces my high end a bit, but it also cuts out any articulation in my playing.
