I have an unknown Italian bass from the late 19th, that has pearwood for its sides and back. It is an absolute joy to play, and has great expansive sound! It's also a pretty small bass, so it's a pretty perfect bass for me.

I'll be going for it again this year. This past summer was quite the amazing experience so I definitely recommend it! I find that this list is way harder this year! Probably because these excerpts are more representative of a pro audition as opposed to the rep that they're doing.

Out of your options, I have tried white and S&P. I find white responds quicker and I can try to use a more horizontal style with it. I can't imagine how black would feel if I'm a white junkie :)

Definitely possible. I finished RCM 10 up here in Canada in one year, which included Dragonetti and Eccles. You just have to work your butt off and become obsessed with music. It consumed my life for a while. I'm surprised I didn't get injured. Also a social life is important! As hard as you...

For me, use of the thumb in thumb position stopped hurting after the callous was developed, and my muscles got strong enough to support it. This mostly happened in the 4th movement of Eccles for me.
