    Double Bass Bow Management Exercises/Tips?

Thank you for this. I’m awaiting delivery of my German bow after years of French bow playing and this will be a great way to start. I like the no nonsense nature of this. No metronome, no thinking really. Yes, I have some bow technique books that I will eventually incorporate, but this is...

Double Bass German vs. French bow.

I’ve played (well I have OWNED) a French bow for over 40 years. When I bought my first bass it came with a student grade French bow and both of my teachers played French. So I practiced off and on, even playing in a community orchestra. Always seemed to struggle a bit never really comfortable...

Double Bass Popping the top off an Engelhardt...

Could have been worse. You could have typed “sewing tropical fish” and “raising quilts”…

Double Bass Little Rig for a Big Band?

The Genzler rigs are not ported so it's a different dynamic. I have always used ported cabs in the past. I think as far as upright goes, that's a plus. Not sure why though. Just seems like it doesn't feed back as much at volume

Double Bass Little Rig for a Big Band?

I own both Genzler 12-3 and 10-2. The 10-2 sounds great for upright and 12-3 better for electric. YMMV of course since I'm using the Genzler head

Double Bass A Couple of Beginner Questions

You may want to consider German bow. I find it easier as the weight of your arm naturally puts more pressure on the strings without using any muscles IMO

Double Bass Can you play the melody on Silver's Song for My Father?

And you thought that you could escape the Real Book Police (DK)! Truth be told, I've learned a lot from Don's posts over the years. His chart to "Goodbye Porkpie Hat" puts the Real Book to shame!

Double Bass Never touched a double/standup till today, and WOW!

Well, that's got to be the quickest derailment of a post in TB history. Post #2! OP- Good on you for giving it a go. However- the only thing that it has in common with your BG is the tuning. It is a demanding, physical instrument and believe it or not- you can injure yourself with bad technique...
