    Choice in Amp or Cab

You are also a guitar player. What amp are you using? Lots of guitar amps are usable for bass. You already have a bass speaker cabinet. Try it with your guitar amp and see how it sounds. You should disconnect the speaker in the amp if it's a combo and just use the Markbass cab. Save up for a...

OSB-covered walls: a bad idea for a studio?

What you are planning has the potential to be a nightmare vis a vis your home insurance and any building inspections that may take place. Flammable wall materials are a big no no. Use fire rated drywall and build movable acoustically reflective or absorbtive panels if you need them. The laws...

15 inch peavey black widow speaker/ cabinet

4Mal posted a diagram of how to wire 2 speakers in series. All you need is (3) 1/4 inch phone plugs and a few feet of brown zip cord for lamps. If you don't know how to solder maybe you have a friend who can help you out. Do you have a tech who services your amps? Maybe someone at your local...

    Tommy Cogbill's 66 P bass

The bridge on Cogbill's bass is not original, and neither is yours. It's interesting that both basses had a similar upgrade. The original bridges were stamped steel with threaded saddles.

Can a Ken Smith Rock or do Metal?

I played a Ken Smith BT with jazz bass style pickups in a New Wave / Punk band during the late 80's. It had a factory paint job-white It sounded great. I had a friend that worked at "The Guitar Trader" in Red Bank NJ. He told me they just took it in on trade and they wanted to get rid of it...

15 inch peavey black widow speaker/ cabinet

Another thought. Peavey offers replacement basket/coil assemblies for the Black Widow speakers. You remove the magnet from your speaker and put it on the new basket. Check to see if these assemblies are interchangeable and get an 8 ohm assembly to replace the 4 ohm unit. This may be less...

15 inch peavey black widow speaker/ cabinet

Before you go out and buy or build anything try wiring the 4 ohm speaker cabinets in series. That will give you an eight ohm load that the amp will be happy with. You gain add about 3 db of gain by moving more air with the extra cabinet. You might find that the sound is what you want.

    Estate Auction Basses

The hollow body is almost surely a Guild. The tatty Guild label is a strong clue. The Hagstrom Bisonic pickups and and bridge further support this. This may be a sleeper worth looking at. Good luck at the auction

For Sale Michael Dolan 5 string neck through PRICE LOWERED

I'm not a snapper nor a popper so I can't say as to whether or not the pickup would affect that style of playing. Any percussive effects I use in my playing are done at the highest frets on the fingerboard. I think it sounds fine,I have it loaded with fairly light D'Addario roundwounds which are...
