You should be able to unscrew the control knobs and raise them. There should be a hole for a hex screw on the side.

Thanks. It’s my first time. I didn’t have to alter anything. I even had room for wire managers with zip ties to protect the battery cable. I learned from some simple mistakes like exposed wire touching copper foil means no sound. Overall, I’m thrilled and excited to keep experimenting.

I went with a Tone Monster: 3 band with treble and bass stacked. Mid is separate. I’ve included a closeup for a better view of the knobs. Hopefully the install photos will upload in the correct order. It was my first time. I’d like to replace the tuners and bridge next.

So I put a Tone Monster in my Glarry GIB 5 string. I used the SBK-3D. It's setup as Volume, Balance, a Treble Bass stack and Mids. While the treble boost is a bit mild, I can't believe how much I like the tone on this cheap little bass. I can't put the thing down. It's just way too much fun.

That would explain it. Or would it? My Glarry GIB 5 is dead silent when balanced between the two pickups. When only one is selected, there's a significant hum.

Thank you for showing your work in such detail! I'm about to change out the preamp on my Glarry 5 and it was tremendously helpful to see your process. I'm using a Tone Monster Preamp with a stacked Treble/Bass control so I also get control of the Mids. I'm excited to hear how it sounds.

You could never play with or for a single soul but if it brings you joy, then you have all of the justification you need.

Hmm. So I finally had a chance to take a closer look at my Glarry GIB 5 string in terms of set up. The bridge is off center by somewhere between 1/8-1/4 inch. It’s not terrible but it does mean the strings are centered properly over the poles in the pickups. It doesn’t seem to affect tone. Would...

There are customs issues with a lot of goods coming in from China. I’m sure their inventory took a dive when factories were shut down, as well. Not that I can confirm that their factory was shut down as part of the Chinese response to the corona virus.
