What are you looking for?Any suggestions for decent strings for a six?
It have to be said that Glarry is a first-timer on the 6-string bass and we may not be able to give professional advice. If you have Facebook, you can help by joining Glarry group, there are many professional players who can help you. Glarry Guitar Club | FacebookI ordered my sixer yesterday, received a shipping notice this morning.
I had my eye on the SX six from Rondo (have a few, love ash bodies), but since this is my first foray into the six string world, thought I'd save a few bucks. Glarry seems to have a few fans, so that's good.
Modded plenty in my time, and doing setup is a great way to get acquainted with a guitar.
Any suggestions for decent strings for a six?

Update, had to drill out the bridge for the B string just a little bit, Adjusted the truss rods, Polish the frets, oiled the board, and it is definitely a keeper! I did not think the strings that came with were bad, but after replacing them, really sounds good. I have small hands and I am able to play it no problem, the upside of the wide neck is when you go to play a four or five string they feel skinny lol.. Yes everything that was said above, so far so good, I’m just gonna polish the Frets, Oil the board, and put new strings on.
My six string came earlier in the week. Wood & finish are fine, neck and fretboard fine. But the electronics...
ALL of the knobs are so jammed down on the pot shafts, they won't move or turn. I tried edging some really thin cord underneath to lift, but no luck. I am looking for my nylon body panel (Harbor Freight) tools to see if I can edge it up. If not, we'll go through the control cavity.
Hoping the finish isn't damaged under the smashed-down knobs.![]()
You should be able to unscrew the control knobs and raise them. There should be a hole for a hex screw on
Nope, no set screws on the knobs on mine. I did find my nylon tool though, and was able to get a little "lift" on them. Two seem to rotate fine, two move around like a tilt-a-whirl. No finish damage, just new pots in the future probably.
More digging to come. Not complaining, part of the inexpensive bass adventure.
This is what we should do, if you have any questions please feel free to contact us.Thanks, but I'll take care of it.![]()
The all black one with the red knobs is really sharp looking. …really wish I knew how to mod and setup as I enjoy certain projects with my hands. Is that bass originally fretless or is it one of your mods? Did you change any of the electronics? Enjoy.yup, either felipe or i could chomp on that!
quoting from another thread, re: glarry instruments:
paulownia/empress is lightweight and sustainable (and grows very fast), native to parts of asia, tends to have luxurious grain patterns, and is often called "basswood." "burlywood" is a 'look', not a species.
my five examples of modded glarry-based basses:

that blonde p-bass weighs 6 lbs., even, and it plays like a dream (they all do!).![]()
The past 35 yeras I've paid 3-4x the price for basses equal to this. This bass took me about 15 minutes to set up to my liking, it has 2 truss rods and for me, that made it a little tricky. You have to make small adjustments, returned and check till it's right. The finish is perfectly polished. No streaks, no buffer burns.. just a perfect finish. The bridge is nice, easy adjustment, and the edges are not sharp, a well made bridge. The pots. Dime sized, they have workable range, but it'll be one of my first changes. The pickups are medium output, quiet and sound decent. The neck fits well, no gaps or loose pocket. I would have rather it had a neck plate (just my preference) rather it has 4 ferrules and 4 bolts attatching the neck to yhe body. It's stable and well done. Maple neck, looks like rosewood but I can't confirm. Dot markers are done well and flush. Frets (huge surprise) no fret sprout or sharp ends.. they're level and playable. No rattles.. the control cavity is just that. It's not shielded, the pots are typical dime size but have a decent and usable range. To controls basically suck, either treble is full or off. Strap buttons are junk.. get new buttons for your strap or get used to picking it up off the floor. Scarf joint is nicely done and you can't feel that it's there. There was some rough areas in the neck that I buffed off with 0000 steel wool, now neck is smooth and polished. Tuners work! and they work well, not changing them. The nut, I could swear it is a synthetic material.. is a matte color and has a softer feel than hard black plastic. Cut well too. I may have been a lucky recipient of a bass that was put together with a little love.. or not as time will tell. Mind you I didn't receive it in perfect playing condition.. I did have to do some set-up work but that is expected. Is this worth the price? You better believe it is..
Note: it does have the typical neck dive, nothing a decent wide strap doesn't cure.. weight feels good, not light like the usual Glarry.. I'm going to put some flatwound strings on this Sunday, it should be a world of difference. Don't judge this bass on the manufacturer the stringsit ships with suck horribly and will contribute to a crap tone.. get good set of strings on it, make yiur adjustments and okay. I'll bet you will consider this the best $140 you've spent yet
Fur those considering trying out a six string, I'd say go for it, you can do it, easy to get used to.[/
I’m very interested in one; wish I knew someone to help me lear how to do a set up. What brand of flats do you plan to use? Also, would you recommend Dunlop strap locks? Thanks.
