I agree. I've been playing for over 40 years and have never used pedals or effects on gigs. I play through and AVT head with either an 810 or 410 depending on the size of the venue. I have had to use some effects for studio work on songs for some television shows but never needed any for bands...

I play whatever I need for the song. Sometimes it's a Jazz bass, sometimes it's a Precision, sometimes it's my 5 string or my upright. However, I do find that I play Jazz basses much more often than anything else.
