1963 Precision bass restored back to it's original Sherwood green! I bought this with a pretty bad homebrew refin on it, didn't know what the original color was under all the goop until I started scraping. Got a really nice surprise, traces of the original Sherwood paint still in the neck...

If we're talking about pre CBS rosewood precisions from 59-64, the most consistent thing I've seen are basses from 63 have much fatter necks than any other year. 59, 60, 61 usually medium thin all the way down to super thin, 62's I've had were slightly thicker, then in 63 they go really fat...

I was going to ask the same thing, I stupidly sold a refin 61 a few years ago that had the thinnest neck ever, it was something like .74 at the first fret. Those flat\wide necks are the best, not all of the 59-61's have thin necks. I think my 59 is about .81 and another 61 I had was around .79

Yep! It's hard to really tell unless you're looking at in in person. Originally thought it was seafoam but definitely sherwood metallic with a desert sand base coat.

I recently picked up a 1963 precision with a really nasty refin. After digging into the paint layers I discovered it was originally sherwood green!! It has the original green guard and all the parts, neck has the original finish and decal. It's getting refinished back to factory sherwood...

Just to throw a curveball in here, if you like dead rotosounds\more articulate and dynamic than chromes with mids why not try the thomastik jazz flats jf344? They have that roundwound mid grind, fun to play, nice feel, low tension.

I used to have a Fender CS 59 that was just over 7 lbs. Ash body, maple neck. Neck dive doesn't really bother me, but I never liked the sound of it. It had kind of a bassy woofy tone with no definition.

You can get current production American Vintage nitro bodies from Stratosphere, but those have a built in neck pocket angle like I described above (you can make them work with AV62 necks but not ideal without reverse shimming.) All the MIM bodies don't have that pocket angle, but not nitro...
