FWIW (and I know I’m late to the party... but) I use The Warden. I alternate between a Sadowsky metro line jazz and a 75 p bass. It took me a little while to dial it in, but I love that compressor. I am a fan of opti’s.

Although it is not a 5, I will never give up my Sadowsky metro jazz. The tone is incredible and so versatile. I don't slap much, but that tone to me destroys fender elites. When I get a 5, it will be a Sadowsky. Just so I don't sound like a total fanboy, my favorite bass is my 75 fender p.

I think I understand your question. IMO when people I have played with have stated a key, that comes with the knowledge of what the chords are. The more I think of it, the more they are intertwined.

Forgive me if this has been said, but not only do you need to understand the key you are in, but you really need to know if the chord tones you can play with are major/minor. I am always thinking all of these when I play. Don't overwhelm yourself with everything all of us are saying. Play...

My mtd 535 always seemed balanced. So did my 2000 fender jazz fmtv for that matter.
