    Itll only be a problem if your rhythm guitar player goes below the low E on a normal 6 string, and then the only problem is that you wont be able to stay an octave below him. Of course, you could also tune BEAD.

    Fretless: Jazz or P Bass?

    I'd say jazz. I have (and love) a fretless P-bass, but sometimes I find it a bit lacking in growl. I think a jazz with a series/parallel switch (easily done) to give it a bit more beef when you need it would be a good call.
