Sorry for the late reply, but with the Big Muff it helps to replace more than just the input and output caps. The circuit has coupling caps all through it, to isolate each section from DC. If you look at this schematic, then the caps you would want to change would be C1, C3, C4, C7, C12 and...

Maybe the whole headstock should pivot. You could push it forward to set all the strings into a drop tuning :ninja:

All Maple will be somewhat heavy. You're probably better off with something like Swamp Ash or Alder for the body, Maple is good for the neck. That's a starting point anyway, and they're all light coloured woods. BUT, I would really be asking this question in the Luthier's Corner, you'll get...

I built a bass with a fuzz and phaser in it. It's ok if that's the only effects you want to use and if that's the only instrument you use.

A quick and probably obvious question - I'm putting together a bass with a Fender-style headstock (as in, parallel to the fretboard), and I picked up a round string retainer (Invalid Link Removed). Having never seen one of these things up close before, I assumed that it would have grooves...

It's probably accurate enough to compete with a cheap tuner, but it's not perfect. There's a really interesting article about tuning here, and the section titled "MORE MATH: THERE WILL BE A QUIZ IN THE MORNING" talks about tuning to harmonics and why it doesn't work.

All done today! I didn't take any photos of the finishing process (not much action), but I've been tinkering away here and there. The finish is Minwax Wipe-On Poly, gloss, with the final couple of coats satin. I then "buffed" it with 0000 steel wool, and gave it a single coat of Tung oil...

Looking sweet! Oil finishes are definitely the nicest looking IMO. How soft is that Cedar? That would be my only concern with doing an oil finish on something like this.
