    The Effect Builders Club!

Sorry for the late reply, but with the Big Muff it helps to replace more than just the input and output caps. The circuit has coupling caps all through it, to isolate each section from DC. If you look at this schematic, then the caps you would want to change would be C1, C3, C4, C7, C12 and...

    Headstock design - 2x2 vs 4 inline

Maybe the whole headstock should pivot. You could push it forward to set all the strings into a drop tuning :ninja:

    Building A bass

All Maple will be somewhat heavy. You're probably better off with something like Swamp Ash or Alder for the body, Maple is good for the neck. That's a starting point anyway, and they're all light coloured woods. BUT, I would really be asking this question in the Luthier's Corner, you'll get...

Stomp Box in a Bass - Inconvenient?

I built a bass with a fuzz and phaser in it. It's ok if that's the only effects you want to use and if that's the only instrument you use.

    Round string retainer question

Thanks for the reply. I'll leave it without grooves then, as it's probably easier on the strings.

    Round string retainer question

A quick and probably obvious question - I'm putting together a bass with a Fender-style headstock (as in, parallel to the fretboard), and I picked up a round string retainer (Invalid Link Removed). Having never seen one of these things up close before, I assumed that it would have grooves...

Hair trigger on B string tuning

It's probably accurate enough to compete with a cheap tuner, but it's not perfect. There's a really interesting article about tuning here, and the section titled "MORE MATH: THERE WILL BE A QUIZ IN THE MORNING" talks about tuning to harmonics and why it doesn't work.

Where can I get a six string graphtech nut?

Well there's one here --> http://www.graphtech.com/products.html?ProductID=293&CurrencyID=2 Personally though, I bought this blank and shaped/cut it myself: http://www.graphtech.com/products.html?ProductID=298&CurrencyID=2 If you don't mind cutting it yourself it's probably better as it lets...

First build - 6 String Fretless

Heh, thanks man. Not for sale though :p. The lines are handy for sure. This is my first fretless, so I didn't want to be stabbing in the dark on every note. I must say though, 35" scale + chunky 6 string neck is going to take a little adjusting. My only other bass is a 34" 4 string. Gonna...

First build - 6 String Fretless

All done today! I didn't take any photos of the finishing process (not much action), but I've been tinkering away here and there. The finish is Minwax Wipe-On Poly, gloss, with the final couple of coats satin. I then "buffed" it with 0000 steel wool, and gave it a single coat of Tung oil...

    Nomad98 build

Looking sweet! Oil finishes are definitely the nicest looking IMO. How soft is that Cedar? That would be my only concern with doing an oil finish on something like this.

    fretting over inlays

Actually the guitar belongs to Benjamin Strange. I had nothing to do with it, I just saw his post :).

    fretting over inlays

See here for when fretting has been done over the top of (dot) inlays: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5273633&postcount=70

    My bass

Very nice! I love how it's simple and subtle (in a good way). Diggin' the control plate :).
