My whole band excluding the drummer are recreational users, and we've never had an issue. It's more respecting each other's lifestyle choices than anything else. He doesn't do it, we do. End of story, back to making music. But the lighting up at practices DOES seem a little over the top.

Why not just continue the DOD signal with one of their old bass comps? GC has a couple used for $30. Hard to go wrong for so little. But I've got a thing for old DODs so maybe I'm a little biased?

How'd you turn down Slagwagon? That's golden. As far as rejected band names in my group, our original gigging name was "Penile Silence". And every time one of my friends from high school starts a metalcore band the name is cringeworthy but out of tact I won't put those out there ;)

Before worrying about the bass being overplayed I think the real detractor is the obviously bored winds section.

A pair of Carvin JB5000s and a Spector NS-2 (Just to say I have one) With an Orange Terror bass 1000 with an OBC 810, and more pedals than would be reasonable to list here.

Honestly cannot say enough good things about this head. Originally had it in a BRX 210 but got a ridiculous craigslist deal on a Redline 810. And originally I had the same concerns the OP did with the 500 watts not pushing the 1200w cab but it's been a beast even at low volumes.
