Where to pick back up after a few years off?

An alternative to the Groove Doctor reply just above, yet kind of similar : - Buy yourself a new bass. A different one from the one(s) you've got. (sort of cheap but good ; perhaps some low or middle price-range from a Japanese big name..) - Meanwhile bring your fave bass to a good luthier...

    The "perfect" number of knobs

Well I'm a 30+ years Jazz Bass player so of course I voted 3 (VVT.) Also I've been very tempted by the Reverend(s) for some time and I think I'd appreciate the volume-balance-tone layout. Actually the JB's VVT is not very handy, but the idea is to set the proper setting for the day (always the...

    Let's Get Some Action Going!

I'm afraid I belong to the bottom of the classroom. You know, by the radiator... Voted >2.8 mm because, well that's the truth. I just pluck it all big hands, in permament doggy bassy extazz. Yes, right hand by the neck foot, and let it go, all like a mad kid playing wild double bass when parents...

    NAD Ampeg SVT Micro VR

The cracking happens when it operates in 4 ohms. I'm not the only one to notice, it's been discussed pretty much ! But that's old memory now. Good information still, thanks.

    NAD Ampeg SVT Micro VR

"I'm spoiled from the sound enough that I always use both cabinets, no matter the circumstances or volume levels." Me just the same... [edit : You seem to use another head and another pair of cabs, my input is just about the Ampeg Micro-vr and its svt210 regular cabs. They sound sweet, but I...

    NAD Ampeg SVT Micro VR

Have a pedal-standard little jack you plug out of the "send" (effect loop) of the 1st head into the "return" (effect loop) of the 2nd head. That's it. You plug the bass into the first head, that's the master. You get all your pre-amp settings on this head (gain, bass medium etc.) The 2nd head...

    NAD Ampeg SVT Micro VR

Having two 8ohms cabs with one single head, to get down to 4 ohms overall, well, I've tried... With the Ampeg svt-210 cabs at least it was disappointing. Mostly because any setting above noon made it enter cracking noises territory. So no real increase in sound power in practice, and a danger...

    NAD Ampeg SVT Micro VR

"Definitely not super loud, as all reviews will tell you, but it pushes my little 210 hard enough," Just double it. Get a 2nd head and a 2nd cab. The Micro-vr heads pair perfectly when master-slaved through the effect loop. No phasing issue, at all. You like the sound and you'll get noticeably...

Returning after 20 years! Could do with some advice.

Remember, playing bass (and guitar as well) requires muscles, or parts of muscles, that are not being used so much in everyday life. You will still need your 1st month of daily practice before you feel any ease at playing... This said you come with some 'good start' I can read !

Returning after 20 years! Could do with some advice.

I suppose you're needing some amp, too..

    Who's your favorite bassist?

John Entwistle (Who) Paul Simonon (Clash) Of course many others from many genres or occasions (Violent Femmes anyone ?), but I'll stick on these two.

    Ampeg SVT-VR for Ric-O-Sound?

Wasnex said : "SVT and 810 for neck and V4B and SVT212AV for bridge should be pretty cool" Hmmm..

    Ampeg SVT-VR for Ric-O-Sound?

Just get 2 amps. Will be huge. Otherwise... nothing much different from the mono (which is Rickenbaker mono, great already!)

From a purely aesthetic viewpoint, do you prefer silks or bare? if silks, what color?

Oh so "clivant", very divisive, nice thread & well done OP... Hot !

Looking for a 4 string with a P bass body and J neck

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Reverend bass production here. I don't own any but sure wish to. Been a JB exclusive player for decades (quite harsh and dirty, but JB still), bought a Squier Precision very recently just in case my old one went 'hangar queen'.. Always wanted a P. But remain...
