    Hourglass Shaped Tuning Posts

    I purchased a G & L Tribute Kiloton and love it. But why do some basses use hourglass shaped tuning posts. It seems to me it makes it impossible to achieve maximum break angle over the nut on the E and A strings. Does anybody have any insight into this?

    tips for learning and memorizing notes on the fretboard?

    Put a fretboard map on your wall. Then, if you can read music get some sheet music you enjoy (preferably in bass clef) and play it. Even if you have to play it slowly it will still teach you the fretboard intuitively. After six years I still love to sight read.
