Check out the bands Aurra, Quazar, Roy Ayers, Maze, Dynasty, EW&F. Teena Marie and Stanley Clarke both played some funky music, but you'll have to search for specific songs.
Mark Adams from the band Slave was very 'in your face'. Same with Jack Casady in Jefferson Airplane (especially live) and Stanley Clarke in Return to Forever.
I would try wearing a latex glove and a silk glove at the same time. The latex one would isolate the skin from strings and the silk one allow free movement of the fretting hand.
The idea of quartz frets isn't really all that new. In the '90 Lane Poor produced the Minima bass, which basically had something like that...

I have read the same story about Stanley on Alembic Club.
These orange epoxy pickups are the old ,discontinued type and can be delicate, again so I have read.
Still, I think You have nothing to worry about if you dont abuse your bass.
