I think I'm being misunderstood here. I'm not against casual bands, I'm against bands that pay to play/play for free. Good bands didn't just disappear, venues stopped valuing bands that could draw a crowd because they could get people to dance with a $4.99 record. It's not bands' faults that...

You're certainly correct, there are not as many good bands as there used to be. But I would argue it's because venues don't pay as well anymore, not the other way around. How many people would invest the time required to make a band tight if the payoff is only $30 per man? If venues paid more...

You want band? Must pay band. There's a bar in my town that has a policy to not play bands. They'll give you a free beer per man but that's it. Needless to say, neither of my bands play there because that place is PACKED on weekend nights and not paying the entertainment when you're raking it...

Depends on the model, in addition to the "Roadstar" designation most all basses had a model number like "RB924" or somesuch. If there's no model# I'd assume it's a budget model and go no higher that $300. Good basses anyway...
