    Two Bassists in a band

In Finland we have a funk band Fishmachine with two bassists. The other one plays on high frets sounding like a guitar, the other from low position.

Octaver with +1 octave to add to band sound?

Difficult to analyze..we play covers, a bit of funk and soul, some blues, some pop/rock. Depends on the song! Some are ok with the current setup, some would require something more.

Octaver with +1 octave to add to band sound?

We have a band with drums, bass, vocals and one guitar -we've been looking for keyboardist or second guitar, but haven't found any yet. The band sound is somehow thin at least in some tunes, I think there should be more of something in the middle frequencies..? I wonder if an octave pedal which...

    Who doesn’t mind neck dive?

I'm using a special strap which allows me to adjust the position of the bass, so neck dive is no more a problem: Sling Strap Guitar Strap

Have you been on a bass camp?

Next week I will attend my very first music camp, so I'm pretty excited! The focus is on funk, and at the same time there's also a camp for drummers, so there'll be lots of chances to practice together. We got preliminary tasks working with two songs. One of them is Cissy Strut, which I love :-)...

2022 New Year Goals and GAS. Anyone else? [poll]

Yeah, playing with the band has been difficult. I aim to have more band rehearsals this year! And I got an idea to make a playlist of my favourite songs that I have been playing on my bass lessons, and to learn them again (and better, after a few years of playing!)! Just for fun! At least Good...

Do you take a bass on holiday?

Me too, I usually take my ukulele to our remote cabin with no electricity. Quite nice to play a different instrument for a change!

How many times do you pick up a bass a day?

I also work currently at my home office, and I take regular breaks and play a song/do an exercise. I think that's a perfect way to recover! Even boring or difficult workstuff gets tolerable, once I know that in 25 minutes I'm allowed to pick up my instrument.

Non-bass instruments you own and play

I'm learning basics on drumming, at least now that band rehearsals are on a break because of covid. I just had a lesson, and we selected a few songs that I have played on bass. It's real fun, although the coordination is difficult :-D In our summer cottage with no electricity I play ukulele.

How often do you play your LEAST played bass from the stable?

Current songs that I'm working on aren't very suitable for my hollow-body Aria from the 70's. I'll try and remember to pick it up for scales etc., but not too often. The last song that I played with Aria was Wichitah Lineman. I gor a nice sound with a pick.

How to simplify a complicated bass line?

Wow, thank you! Lots of good ideas how to approach the task! And yes, I'll have fun :-)

How to simplify a complicated bass line?

Good questions! Well, I guess that it is the fast high notes that sound difficult to me - and that it they may not sound good, if not played accurately. Of course, I can give it a try! The group is under a community college and plays just to learn and to have fun, so it's not a question of...
