Do you take a bass on holiday?

Nope. Carry an acoustic guitar or my Gretsch tenor ukulele. Much better for a couple of pops and a singalong.

This is my vacation player. We go to a lake in Maine in the summer, and there's usually at least one rainy day.

I wanted to take one on my last vacation but couldn’t fit it in the vehicle. Had to settle for a ukulele.
Learned a lot of ukulele while wishing I had a bass!

Me too, I usually take my ukulele to our remote cabin with no electricity. Quite nice to play a different instrument for a change!

Do you take a bass on holiday?
yes. but my wife and i haven't had a real away-from-home holiday since 2019 (speaking historically, here). we'd spend two weeks away from home. i don't have a travel instrument so i take one of my main players and a small, lightweight, powered monitor. i do a fair amount of writing/arranging on vacations, and of course, practicing.

i've never bothered with any of it for a 2-3 day stay (again, not since covid), e.g., visiting my kids/grandkids.

Depends. When I go visit my parents I do since we generally jam while I am there. On regular vacation no. To busy doing other things.

I do..... it's a beater bass short scale I hacked up with a jigsaw. I take it on any holiday of more than a few days. Going overseas I take the neck off and it fits in a medium sized travel bag.

And it's times like this that make it worth it. Plunking away to some favorite songs with a view like this with a really nice beer, after spending a day walking in some amazing scenery. Priceless!

Indeed. I have a Mitchell short scale that I put a Mustang pickup in the P position that I take to Mexico every year for my band's annual gig trip.

If traveling by car, yes. I'll take my AEB since it doesn't require anything else to play.

I have been thinking of buying something cheap and keeping it in the closet at my dad's house, since I was visiting a few times a year pre-COVID, and once the risk level of traveling to see him come down (there are many layers of risks involved) I'll probably do it on my next visit.

I default to bringing my ukulele most of the time on vacation. It's easier to pack, and more conducive to singalongs. The only bass I'd take with me would be my u-bass though.

I have on road trips that don't cross international borders. I've also rented (well purchased and flipped) a bass when I was out of the country for a few weeks a couple years ago.

Sometimes. I take a bass or guitar if I am expecting to jam with someone or if I anticipate a lot of down time. I hate to admit I’m more likely to grab a guitar. Hey, it’s a vacation from practice too.

Back when I used to go on holiday/vacation... at Fiddlers Convention the music was the focus of the vacation, so... YES!

Yes. Fender Precision at first and now my Rickenbacker 4003S. It's nice to sit around the campsite and noodle.

Twice a year I go off on an extended weekend with a group of buddies. We're been doing thing this for about 25 years. They are golfers and I am not, so I always have one free afternoon when they are off hitting balls. I've been known to take either my bass or a mandolin with me to fill that time. Never on a family vacation or when it's me and the wife.
