Do you take a bass on holiday?

I don't know what a vacation is, but I bring my mini a pedal ( pre amp with different amp modulators) and a soundbar/Bluetooth speaker as a baby cab for use on business trips. The mini fits in a Strat gig bag.

Yes! I've brought my short scale piccolo 6 string on my last 2 trips (non-flying).

This one was at a beach house in Galveston, TX



and this one was in Fort Worth, TX

I enjoy arranging both classical music and video game music for bass, so I like to do what I enjoy on vacation!!

I take a bass with me quite often when I go out of town, whether it's a vacation or a fly gig. Steinbergers are great for that. I once took the Steinberger out on the Amtrak train from NY to Boston and rehearsed my parts plugged into an iRig and my iPhone.

I have to spend 5 weeks in Europe and my wife is going to be working for at least 4 of those weeks over there so Im going to have some free time.
Seriously thinking about buying a cheap short scale and take it with me but I'm worried about bringing a bass on planes internationally.
Can be done? Can I bring a short scale bass into a plane cabin? Will it fit on the overhead bins?
What do you guys think?

If you take the neck off you can fit it in your suitcase and pad it out with clothing.

I have a selection of Basses at my various holiday homes

If I find something is unsatisfactory I have my Pilot chopper in other options.

My travel bass is easier to play with a pick and I forgot one. Can you get your pilot to bring one to Cape Foulwind for me please?

I have rarely taken a bass with me on vacation, but I have been know to come home with one, or perhaps a guitar!

The last vacation (to the San Francisco area in '15) was when I brought this home.

I love a 12string guitar (and love an 8 string bass too ) . I can only imagine how a fan fret version would sound!

In a word, it sounds glorious, particularly when in alternate tunings, such as DADGAD. Jumbo body with arm rest and Manzer Wedge ™ so it is quite comfortable for a such a large guitar.

Once you get beyond the BigBocks® brands and into fine luthier builders, multiscale acoustic guitars become moderately common.

Nope, although I used to fairly regularly a few decades ago.

As a regular thing, no. But I have, numerous times in the past. Mostly my acoustic Guild, but a few times I've taken a p bass and a little practice amp.
