I too thought they only offered fretless in the P-bass back then (which was an irony since the "precision" came from the idea that the presence of frets in the then-new electric bass allowed a person to play with precision)

I can't think of anything I would trash if it was reasonably fit for purpose - if it would hold tuning, hold a setup, in good working order. If I don't like the looks or the sound, there's someone else who does. I would say that I don't know how you people enjoy playing those short scale basses...
