Does anyone else here dislike PJ basses?

I love the PJ sound. I usually run the P at 100% and add the J as required.

    Ampeg PF20T vs. PF50T

The output of a PF20T will drive a power amp to full power without difficulty. I have a PF20T and have tried it but find it all too fragile for gigs. I prefer my Mesa Boogie M9 Caliber in a flight case for gigs.

My first bass head: Ampeg PF50T or Aguilar TH-500?

I have a Ampeg PF20T that sounds really nice and it doesn't have a fan so it is quite. Great for studio or practice room. The Ampeg PF50T has more power and tone options than the Ampeg PF20T. For a first amp I would be looking at a Mesa Subway amp. There are several models in that range but...

If the NASA takes you to some asteroid, and say "You can only take 20 pounds with you…"

I am not sure that sounds like much fun. Guylian chocolates, heroin, and when that is gone I will step outside for a walk.

    Memorizing songs?

While I am tempted to day it is just a matter of more practice. There have been a few times in my life where songs I thought I know well started and I just couldn't remember the riff. Total mental block. I was guessing at it for a while. It was a disaster. Strangely nobody said anything...

Quality control in Ampeg PF-20T - Nice amp but the buzz...

I am surprised no-one from Ampeg has picked up on this thread. It is a simple quality control failure. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you fix it?

Quality control in Ampeg PF-20T - Nice amp but the buzz...

I think I am way outside the warranty period. I expect this type of product to last decades and perhaps, with careful maintenance, a century. There are amps from the 50's and 60's still in people's studios today, why not this?

    Headphone Amp For Practice

While it may be overkill for your needs. There are small mixers like the Behringer Xenyx 1002B that can be battery or mains powered. You can plug in a an (older) iPad, laptop or phone with Spotify, a metronome and other apps to practice with. The Behringer Xenyx 1002B has 2 instrument inputs...

Quality control in Ampeg PF-20T - Nice amp but the buzz...

I have a Ampeg PF-20T coupled with a 15" EV TL606 speaker. This is a great amp in the studio and practice room. Just a good reliable vintage sound. There is no fan so it is very quite, or it was until it started buzzing. I traced the buzz to mechanical noise from the power transformer. The...

What's your rig of choice for this weekend? Part 2.

Being embarrassed by basses you love?

Here is a super interesting video on where guitar tone comes from: It would apply to bass just as much. From what I can here 90% of the sound comes from your fingers, most of the sound of the instrument comes from the strings and pickups. Watch the video. What is your opinion? Action and...

Sanding the back of a neck

I have sanded the back of my necks lightly with 1200 grit sand paper. Excellent result!

Times you recognized a musician when others didn't

Leaving famous people alone in their private time is respectful. I once saw a very famous actor in the street. He knew from the way I looked at him I had recognized him and I just gave a slight nod of my head as we passed and he returned the gesture. Stopping him in the street would just...

NBD - 12 Years in the making - 39" scale fretless

I didn't know you could get strings that long. I am 6'1" with man size hands and would have trouble playing a bass that big. What do your hands look like?
