I know we all joke about our Sweetwater engineers…

I've always worked with Dennis Konicki. I worked with him to get a discount today. I used to just fill out the email form and request a quote. Within the last 2 weeks, I filled out 3 and all got ignored, so I put the gear I wanted in my shopping cart and called Dennis with my cart ID. He...

How bad (or good) was your first bass?

My first bass was a new 98 or 99 fender squier p-bass special. I didnt know anything anout bass except that my guitarist friend needed someone to play one. I was 14 at the time. The action was very high. Despite that, the strings still buzzed on the frets. But at the time in my life, I was...

is it worth buying a 5 strings ?

My most comfortable tuning is in octaves. Real bassists give me a hard time about. Not sure what Im supposed to say. Thats just how I play. From low to high: A D A D G

is it worth buying a 5 strings ?

I play all 5 strings. There have been a lot of pros and cons here and I think most are valid. Ive been wanting to buy another 4 string, but when it comes time to spend them money, I cant bring myself to purchase a bass that is going to have fewer options, despite my knowing that I am in...

To add a 15 inch speaker or not

Unfortunately, my drummer plays with heads very loosely tuned. It sounds terrible unless you Will Smith the hell out of them. And he gets pretty defensive when suggestions are thrown his way. In my case, I am fortunate enough to have over-powered gear, so its a non issue today. But boy I...

To add a 15 inch speaker or not

After this thread, I do believe that I need to look more into hpf. Those are getting massive praise and Im embarrassed now to say that I have no experience with them.

Which Amp for what? For Newbie..

I don’t have a lot of experience with many different heads, but I rented a Gallien Krueger once and it had amazing attack and clarity. Very punchy in all of the right ways. It is true that I have not been able to get that tone from my SVT.

To add a 15 inch speaker or not

Turning down drums is much harder than turning down guitars. I practice with a loud drummer and guitarists. I do use ear plugs. My opinion for the OG is that the 410 cab should be loud enough to get a balanced volume with a loud drummer if you give it enough power. My recommendation would be...

To add a 15 inch speaker or not

From my experience, starting with very small amps, I was not able to compete with drums. While the guitars (even through a 25 watt amp) could be heard at a balanced volume with the drums. I agree that you need balanced volume. That said, I found myself cutting the lows on larger bass combos...

Which Amp for what? For Newbie..

I play through an Ampeg SVT 4 pro. This is a pricey Amp but has a lot of functionality and versitility. Characteristics, where to begin.... Let’s start at compression. The compression dial turned all of the way up provides a very smooth, very clean tone. Turn it all of the way down, and now...

To add a 15 inch speaker or not

I had this thought too. I wouldn't add another speaker without adding power (so a powered sub could work). I’m not familiar with the details of the bassman, but a 410 cab should be plenty loud if it is provided adaquate power imo

To add a 15 inch speaker or not

Im not an expert in this realm at all, but I can tell you what I did and it works for me. Unfortunately, it cost an arm and a leg. As one who is not an expert, my recommendation would be to pursue more head room. Working with less than 150 watts power is going to be tough to compete with...

Where do I get a jazz ultra pickguard replacement?

I see this is an old post. Does anyone have experience with GreasyGroove pickguards? They are a bit cheaper. Based on the photos on their website, the pearlescent ones dont look as vibrant as WD. I didnt know if it was just the picture or if the quality is not as good.
