I absolutely love the finish on it. My only complaint is that every smudge or fingerprint really shows on it. I picked up a bottle of Gibson polish to keep in the case and keep it looking purty.

So... update on my Thunderbird from Sweewater (may be a bit of a long post); To catch up anyone that may have missed my original posts (or if anyone forgot) I ordered the demo model of the 2018 Bright Cherry Thunderbird, and it arrived with cracks along the fretboard, and had pretty bad fret...

    Question about wattage and speakers

One more (slightly related) question; if I'm using an overdrive pedal would it be a good idea to use the active input of an amp? Until recently I always used a bass with active pickups so I never really put much thought into it, but the bass I've been using doesn't have active pickups. Since I'm...

    Question about wattage and speakers

I really didn't expect it to be as big of a difference as it was. I knew it would be a bit louder, but the 700 I usually ran about halfway up, while the 1000 I've only had up past 2 a couple times while playing bigger venues. Thanks for the help everyone. I'm going to try to replace the speaker...

    Question about wattage and speakers

Yeah I thought it seemed a bit quieter than usual tonight, so I guess I should have seen that as a warning. I'll replace it with a speaker rated for a higher wattage. I think the speaker I had in it was also meant as a PA speaker, which could also be why the heavy bass tones overloaded it? The...

    Question about wattage and speakers

This is what confuses me. If the speaker is rated at 800 but the amp is 1000 watts and I'm running it at a lower volume, I assumed I would be fine because I'm never actually pushing the speaker past it's breaking point. But something caused it to fry.

    Question about wattage and speakers

Sorry, I meant I use an overdrive pedal. Distortion, basically. I try to keep it set so it isn't a big difference in volume over the clean... slight boost but it's not a major jump in volume.

    Question about wattage and speakers

About 10 years ago I bought a 700 watt Peavey head, and I put an Eminence speaker in my old Peavey 1x18" enclosure that was rated at 800 watts. I ran this setup for around 10 years before the head died, and I recently replaced it with a new Peavey Headliner 1000 watt head. Tonight, after playing...

What's your rig of choice for this weekend? Part 2.

I emailed Peavey about my cabinet and figured I would post the info they gave me here in case someone in the future comes across one and is looking for info like I was; The cabinet is a 118FH BW and was released in 1977 at $504. The original speaker was a 4 ohm Black Widow rated at 150 watts...

Thanks! I got a lot of compliments on the Thunderbird last night. It was also my first time playing it through my main rig, "The Beast", and it sounded awesome.

What's your rig of choice for this weekend? Part 2.

My old band was called Megaton Hammer. With a name like that you can't just show up with some dinky combo amps, you gotta live up to the heaviness. ;)

What's your rig of choice for this weekend? Part 2.

It's super heavy. Especially sucks when I'm in a situation like my current one, where we practice in a basement. Not fun to lug up and down stairs. As far as I have been able to find, it was the first line of 18" cabs that Peavey put out, and I think it may have been an option for the Super...

What's your rig of choice for this weekend? Part 2.

This is my monster. I used to run a Tour 700 Peavey, but after 10 years it died and I got the Headliner 1000; The cabinet is a rear-facing 18". Don't really know much about it other than it was probably made in the 70's sometime and has a tone unlike anything I ever heard of before. I bought...
