    Fender Rumble 800 head only.

Having owned the 500 combo, and being a current owner of the 200 combo and the 800 head, I’m inclined to believe the muddiness is mostly a function of the cab and/or speakers. The 800 head through my Bergantino 212 cab is far clearer than either of the combo versions.

5 Sting bass and the E string. Sounds different to a 4 strings E string

Whatever the reason might be, I tend to agree.

For Sale/Trade Fender American Performer Precision (PJ) - with case!

A great bass that has been made somewhat redundant in my collection by other purchases! 2020 model in great shape - some finish swirling and small marks on the body and pickguard that are basically impossible to photograph. Nice low setup. I have shielded the J pickup cavity. Weight is 8.75 lbs...

For Sale/Trade Guild Starfire II Reissue

Purchased new from Sweetwater about two months ago. I think I've played it about 4-5 times since then - enough to reiterate that (try though I might!) I'm just not a short scale guy. So - new/nearly new condition. Weight 8.5 lbs. Asking $900 + actual shipping to your location (I quote using...

What's the key to getting this Low E punchy sound?

Indeed. Interestingly, it’s also been my experience that 5s tend to have more even response on the D and G strings, and rarely have the 7th-9th fret “dead zone” that 4s often have. As always, YMMV.

What's the key to getting this Low E punchy sound?

I’ve owned and played plenty of “good” 5s from multiple manufacturers. My experience remains consistent across brands, price points, etc.

What's the key to getting this Low E punchy sound?

That's interesting. I find it's almost always the opposite. I've rarely played a 5 that I thought had an E string that was as solid as a comparable 4.

No longer available Lollar 5-string Jazz Bass pickups

Singles. To the best of my knowledge Lollar only does split coils on their 4-string jazz pickups.
