Make sure you can read the copies they give you. Stay on your toes. Be sure you can see a guitarists' fretboard in case you get lost. Stay in the pocket. Good luck buddy!

Don't get discouraged. Listen to alot of different music, and try to develop your ear. I'd recommend getting a bunch of Jack Johnson songs(recordings, not tabs), and trying to learn the basslines. They're very straight-forward songs but at the same time he throws some curves in here and there...

Ibanez's are great basses, it should treat you well. If you lower the tension/action/string height too much, you'll get fret buzz, but a qualified tech should be able to set it up where the action will be nice and quick and you won't get buzz. Don't modify the strap, just buy a wider one...

That's interesting. I'm self-taught for the most part and mainly use 1 and 3 , occaisionally using 2 and 3 at the same time if I'm playing slower stuff that doesn't move a whole lot, but my pinky is really under-developed then, I never use it. Guess I'll have to start playing using 3 and 4...
