I made up my mind: I prefer lined fretless.

When you are an improvisor or play more complex stuff, then lines Will benefit greatly. Almost All the great players use lined fretless. Gary Willis, Alain Caron, Mark Egan, Marcus Miller...to name a few. Jaco said lines really helped him.

How hard do you play and why?

I do not agree on 'let the amp do the work' , the hands should do the work. I hardly practice with an amp, always unplugged, you can hold, or lean, with the the headstock against the bathroom or toilet door or a closet :-) sounds great if you have a good instrument. I do pluck really hard at...

    Learning fretless; fretlines or not?

yuu should always practice on your fretted bass playing right on the frets. it'll give you a warmer tone and ypur hand and fingers gett trainned to play on the right spots on the fingerboard for playing the fretless. It's a rewarding excercise! Try it!

How important is it to fret with your tips vs. pads....

They sound a litle different so i think most lot of it all depends on style, sound and what you wanna play. I've always used them both, it comes kinda natural now, depending on what I'm hearing. Anyone thought of trying the same with your right hand? Hit them hard at the bridge pick up...

Double Bass Why did Steve Swallow switch?

Well Well , hello Y'all :-) I was told a very different story , but as i can't find anything about it. So, I really doubt it's true, nevertheless, absolutely possible! A very high levelled electric bassplayer, here in Belgium, who made the same switch (allthough, he has a really...
