Brighter sounding wood on bass or treble side of neck?

Thanks for all the replys, its good to have all this input. I've just realised I should have made a poll, with 2 options and no "other", haha. Ok so pretty much everyone agrees that its fairly irrelevant what way I glue it up, but seeing as I have only two possible options, I might as well...

Brighter sounding wood on bass or treble side of neck?

I am making a 3 piece maple/wenge/maple neck thru 4 string and have a quick question that I thought might be answered here. This will be the first neck I've built. I have just bought the wood, and one of the maple pieces has a slightly brighter tone then the other when rapped with my knuckle...

Anybody else got a bass with unreal tuning stability?

Both my Carvins never budge, Sperzel locking tuners are the way to go I think. In fact I recently left my 6 string fret less in my parents quite warm house for a few months, and when I checked it it had gone down half a step in tuning, but all 6 strings were still perfectly in tune with one another

Apply Interval recognition to the bass

Spot on. Try Vick's site. Excellent games for teaching you all this stuff. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

    Carvin ID?

You seem to really like it. In that case no price is unreasonable in my opinion, I would go for it.

    Carvin ID?

LB20 I think, because of the knobs and if its passive. Check this out [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] I would say its to expensive, I just got a 90's fully loaded LB70 for 550 euro, $1100 is just nuts for a 4 string.

guitarist turned bassist in need of advice about pretty much everything.

I could be more helpful sorry but I assumed there would be a hundred people with advise here, so I was deliberately oversimplifying. But seen as there are no other takers. Ok right hand technique; seeing as your already an experienced guitarist then your thumb picking and palm muting are...

guitarist turned bassist in need of advice about pretty much everything.

I can't say for sure but I would imagine your trying to get your sound with knobs and amp settings, the best way to change your tone/sound on bass is with your fingers. Try playing all over the bass, try different right hand picking techniques. As for the gear u should have, you already have...

    Doomsday Theory

Yea, your right. Its amazing how many people have immediately decided they know whats going to happen, even though they probably have no idea what factors are controlling the situation. Its a pity that we really only have two unreliable sources for this information; the massive company (BP)...

    Doomsday Theory

It is when the carbon locked up in the oil is released as a gas (methane or CO2), as in when we burn it, that the gas in the atmosphere can absorb and store more of the suns heat. So if we release more of these gasses it will cause global warming. But this is something the earth is well used to...

    Doomsday Theory

Good point. I suppose oil doesn't really have a very obvious purpose, but it acts as a thermo-regulator for the earth. Pretty cool really. The methane hydrates get trapped at a certain pressure but if the sea level drops because of a cooling earth (ie glaciation), this pressure is released...

    Hearing Loss and Ear Plugs

I heard that your ear has thousands of little receptors that stand on end and every time you stick anything in there you damage lots of little hearing receptors. To be honest I can't remember where I heard this, so take it for what it is worth, but if this is the case then would using in-ear...

    Doomsday Theory

I found this when I was looking, I dont think it was the one. I think it was a man made reservoir, for electricity or something, and there was a build up of methane because it wasn't a natural lake. If I remember I'll let you know. Heres the phase diagram showing the formation of the...

Want to replace individual stomps with mulit-effects

+1 Exactly what I was going to say, It just never gives any problems and always does what you want it to.

    Doomsday Theory

I'd say it wouldn't be a massive global effect, just a couple of ships would sink. I have heard these methane burps might be responsible for ships sinking at the Bermuda triangle. Nobody actually knows the reason for the global catastrophe in the Permian that they spoke of. If it was caused...
