    Active tone vs. passive tone

Everything with resistance produces thermal noise. I tend to find the lower bass and the treble ranges of actives are a little stronger than passives. I agree that actives are versatile due to the EQ options and low impedance drive capability but I feel that there are some times when a passive...

    Sidechain "ducking" or beatcontrolled HELP!!!!

For the DIY minded, have a look at Beavis Audio's 'A Simple Volume Attenuator' here: http://www.beavisaudio.com/projects/Looper-Switcher/index.htm alternatively, something like this: Invalid Link Removed Normal volume when disengaged, set lower volume when engaged.

I want to test drive a Rickenbacker, but...

Never really had much GAS for a Rick but when I saw a lefty in a shop, I had to try it. Found it uncomfortable to play because of all of the massive chrome hardware and the sound didn't do much for me either. It was unusual in that it was built with a right handed headstock and right handed...

Ernie Ball Cobalts and curious about trying Flats...

What is it that you like about the Cobalts and what interests you in flats? Flats tend to have more tension in them than round wounds for a given gauge and are not known for either sustain or brightness. Try a slightly lighter gauge of flats but expect a dark sound.

Have you ever broken a string?

I have snapped one and had a few that have been faulty in 10 years of playing.

Voltage regulator to "simulate" a battery

Below the drop out voltage, the voltage out of the regulator will be what is coming in to it. This voltage is around 2V for a LM78xx series regulator so you need at least 11V minimum for a 9V regulator to work and any dips below will then pass through the regulator unfiltered.

Voltage regulator to "simulate" a battery

I will use a regulator for pedals I make that don't use 9V, say in a circuit that uses a valve and needs 12V or ones that has 5V TTL components. I would not say they are overkill, especially in high gain circuits that don't have good noise rejection as they keep the supply voltage predictable...

    SQ Squier Body Upgrade

I would say a different body would sound slightly different but I can't say if you would me sacrificing anything until you tried it. I prefer a comfortable instrument that sounds good to one I hate playing that sounds great.

    Picks and Should Pain

I agree with jeffbonny, it is most likely something in the way you pick that is causing the pain. Try to keep your picking arm as relaxed as possible, too much tension can cause injury. I pick from my elbow with a straight wrist, it doesn't cause me pain.

    Your opinions on these basses?

I have played the left handed Ibanez SR1205 and I liked it as an instrument. Build and finish solid, neck neither thin nor thick but very usable, electronics flexible and natural tone full and pleasing. A good instrument that I would have bought if I was in the market for a 5 stringer. Not...

    Tone Optometry

Question is, did you like the tone you ended up with?

Uneven output after adjusting pick up height

Stronger magnets = higher output (more or less). If the D/G pickup has weak magnets, I would say that is why they are noticeably quieter. Could be that the bar magnet inside the pickup has moved from its original position or it has been demagnetised somehow.

    My new Warwicks.

Got three Warwicks myself, a Corvette active, a Corvette $$ and a Thumb NT. If you really don't get on with the neck on the 5 stringer, swap it. You can always string a 4 string BEAD if you need a low B.
