I'm almost done building my 7 string fretless bass, and am debating whether or not to coat the fingerboard in a poly finish. All the strings will be flat wound except one. The highest string will be a plain .20, and I wanted to know if this would damage an unfinished fingerboard. Thanks, Nate

I'm making a wooden bridge, and I'm thinking of using bubinga or purpleheart. I've never made a bridge before and I'm wondering, which wood would be best? Unfortunately I don't have access to ebony.

And finally, the wings are glued on. All that's left is to make abridge and a nut, rout for the pickups, and apply the finish.

I'm building a 7 string fretless bass and I'm torn between 3 pickups. Right now I'm looking at the bartolini 7 string g6 shape, the Delano jsbc 7, or the Delano sbc 7. Does anyone have any experience with any of these pickups? If so, what were your impressions?

One other possibility is a ghost modular pickup system. You could mount the midi out in the side jack. If your into that sort of thing.

A progress update!! I'm finally done carving the neck! Now it's on to the body wings! The wings will be made out of ash, with purpleheart binding. I'm also thinking about pickups. Does anybody have experience with Delano jsbc or sbc 7 string pickups? Those are the only ones I can find without...

I'd say that it's problem with the pots, but that's just an amatures idea.

Thanks. I actually found a peice of ebony that's big enough (and cheap enough) for what I need. But on the next bass build (I'm thinking about fretless 5 string) I'll keep that In mind.

That it a beautiful bass! I found a great peice of Gabon ebony for $48 plus shipping that big enough for a 7 string. Today I cut the neck outline and started using a rasp to start carving the neck profile.

How about a fretless bubinga fingerboard? Is bubinga a good wood for that or should I count my pennies and get an ebony board?

I think I'll go for a 20" radius. As for the expensive fretboard, I found I have some extra bubinga left over and I was thinking about using that cause I have no money to spare. Does anyone have any experience with fretless bubinga fingerboards? Thanks!
