Yes, definite similarity there. Not similar enough that one song could be mistaken for the other, but enough that hearing one might make you think of the other. (As it obviously did in your case.)

I have two basses that came with Hipshot Ultralite tuners, and have no problems with them - tuning is "normal" both in the feel and the results.

That could apply to other components too, right? I mean, a bass doesn't "need" pretty knobs, fancy fret markers, or an elaborately carved headstock, and the time and money that went into those features could instead have been spent on extra time fine-tuning the setup and feel of a plainer...

Are you including potentially okay bass lines that are performed so poorly that they ruin the song? A good line played excessively out of tune or out of time could ruin a specific recording. Or do you just mean bass lines that are inherently inappropriate for a song even if perfectly in tune...

I said some short scale basses, not all, and explained why. Obviously if all else is (approximately) equal a shorter neck will have a shorter reach to the headstock. But there are tons of models where all else is nowhere near equal.

Note that with some short scale basses the headstock end of the neck is just as far from the body as with 34" scale, because the shorter scale was achieved by positioning the bridge significantly further from the edge of the body than on most 34" scale instruments. So although the fret spacing...
