    Three pedals ain't too much. Sounds like a worthy piece of gear. I have an 2nd gen Palmer pocket amp for guitar. It's pretty great. I don't think it has cab sim. Can be harsh, especially through DI.

    The manual says ‘Saturate’ is placed in front of the FX loop. It’s essentially a soft clipping control. This leads me to believe it only works on the FX loop, but is the FX loop pre- or post-EQ. I’m fairly certain the voicing/drive circuits are all pre-EQ.

    Does anyone know the full internal signal path for this unit? The ‘saturate’ description in the manual is throwing me off on how to intuit this. Also, any feedback on actual use of the FX loop/insert?

    I could be wrong, but haven't I read that G&L p'ups/pres have a very hot signal, to the detriment of some inputs on amps?

    Beginner bass amp

    If it's truly just for practice, get an Ampeg SCR-DI and some good headphones. It's preamp pedal with Scrambler OD, aux in for play-along tracks, and headphone amp built in. From what I understand it's the same preamp section on the BA series combo amps from Ampeg.

    Practicing through headphones

    You could consider a pre/DI box with aux in and headphone amp. Ampeg SCR-DI, 3Leaf Enabler, Bassbone OD are three that come to mind. The aux input on the 3Leaf and Ampeg can only be heard through the headphone jack, so maybe your powered headphones won't work.
