NBD! Coolest Ibanez Ever!

Great bass. Too bad Ibanez couldn t get away with making these type of copies these days. They were usually as good sounding/playing as the originals at half the price or less. Had a late 70 s rick copy that was, in my opinion, a better player than a rick, and tone almost s good. MIJ basses/ guitars from the 70 s and 80 s were way under rated until recently, and the prices reflect that.

Totally agree. I have an 86 rb850 that's awesome and an 86 rb620 on the way. I used to want to sell the 850 then I came to my senses. Anytime I can get my hands on an old Ibby I'm gonna do it.

I remember when these were new in stores... they were seen as a "ripoff" of the old Les Paul recording bass. Not that they aren't cool - it's just that's what they were.

Interesting that at that same time, Ibby made *really* elaborate guitars - crazy inlay, really high quality.

I thought the earlier models like the '72 model 2381s were pretty much outright copies. The '73 model 2372s moved away from that. Probably "inspired" by some legal murmurings from Gibson. The control layout changed quite a bit with the 1973 model. But the '74 model 2615B here scaled way back on the electronics of the LP copy and switched over to the SuperBass pickup that resembles a mudbucker. The older ones from 72/73 had the low impedance "King's Tone" pup - and the '72 release was a direct copy of the LP electronics right down to the control layout.

Either way, I agree. It's one very cool bass. And those old Artist series guitars (my cousin is a rabid Ibby collector and owns a few) had a build quality and cosmetics few guitars today can rival. Especially for what they were going for back then.

Many of you have seen pics of it, asked questions about it and now I own it. 1974 Ibanez Artist Bass model 2615B. It's so freaking cool! Ya, I know it looks heavy, it weights 8.5 lbs so let's knock that of right away, lol. It sounds amazing. You'll hear it. Kinda like nothing I've heard and everything I've heard all in one. One things for sure, it's born for blues and classic rock!! Here's some pics and a video.

Wow, dare to be different!
