Here's a shot I took recently of my yellow Dingwalls:

This beauty arrived yesterday, what a fantastic sounding instrument. The all-wenge neck imparts a lovely deep growl that works so well with the classic Precision character Sheldon has done such a great job of preserving with the Super P :)

I use F#BEADG on a 6-string Dingwall. The extended 37" scale on the low side definitely helps out a lot.

Just a little update to say it's been performing amazingly on tour, I'm really settling into the feel and sound of the bass and I'm really impressed particularly with the clarity and thickness of midrange.

The key to that kind of tone is brand new strings (stainless steel wouldn't be a bad idea) in fairly heavy gauges combined with very low action and aggressive right hand technique to get a nice snap off the frets on the attack but not excessive buzzing during the sustain. Compress very hard and...
