Perceived Loudness varies with log of Signal so why does my Audo Taper Pot only make any difference at end of sweep?

I have Lakland HB30 with the same "problem" the OP describes, i.e. the volume increases slowly at the beginning and much more rapidly near the end of the pot sweep. My newbie impression, though, was that a linear taper pot would show greater increase near the beginning of the sweep, and less...

    Root note problems

You don't say it, but it sounds like maybe you're at the beginning of the learning curve. Ignore me if I've misconstrued that, with my apologies. And the answers so far have all been good, but if you're beginning, some of them are throwing you into the deep end of the pool. Suggestion: Check...

Shim the neck backwards or forward...

Good night, OF COURSE, it's .25 degree!! Man, I need a full-time idiot-proofer. .25 degree shim (from StewMac), NOT a quarter inch. Sorry for my brain fart, and Thanks, Nard, Matt, and Bruce J. Funny because we've all been there. ;)

Shim the neck backwards or forward...

Just a note, in case someone misunderstands, .25" is a quarter inch, not a quarter of a degree. Way too much change. Alternatively it could mean .25 arc-seconds, which is far too little. An easy mistake to make.

Shim the neck backwards or forward...

I used a 0.5 deg StewMac shim on my Sterling RaySS4 because the saddles were bottomed out. Had to put screw holes in the shim to match, but that was a piece of cake. Worked perfectly, and I'm secure in knowing that I have a solid neck/body joint.

    Sire U5 Truss Rod Nut

Picked up a very briefly and lightly used U5. It's near mint, and I like everything about it. BUT... the seller didn't have a truss rod hex key. No problem, I've got a tool box, right? Sire tells me me it should be 4mm, but my 4mm Stanley hex key is very loose, maybe having a 1/2 inch...

Which ultralight tuners fit sterling by musicman short scale stingray?

Landed here searching for tuner info for my Sterling RaySS4. After replacing one I started thinking about going lightweights all around. I didn't think to measure the headstock hole before, but the measurement of the post on the old tuner shows close to 0.55". Am I correct that this would be...

    Beginner bass lessons

I’ll ditto this. I think Andrew Pouska has an excellent low-key, no-BS approach. There’s plenty of free material, and you can get extended features with a couple of pay levels. Max is $100 a year, which has been perfect for me.

    SBMM Stingray Short scale

Ditto. My experience was similar to others, a new unit at GC was awful, but second hand one I found seems fine.

Using One Finger Per Fret And Being Uncomfortable

Interesting thread. Something I haven't noticed though, is how a good teacher (IMHO) is able and willing to make allowances for the physical attributes and limitations of the student. Mind you, I'm not criticizing the OP's instructor, I cannot because I'm not there. Just making a general...

    New Schecter Short-Scale Banshee bass

Thank you. The neatnik in me wasn't happy ( it never is  ), but the wanna-be bassist in me was ecstatic.

    New Schecter Short-Scale Banshee bass

Okay, time passes and I learn a thing or two. This is definitely a shielding problem, as evidenced when I applied copper tape to the pickup and control cavities. I went from having to play with tone extremely low or off, to no hum/buzz whatsoever after the mod. Took me a couple of hours...

    SBMM Stingray Short scale

I'm curious, is there a reason GC wouldn't replace the screw and knob, other than sheer laziness?

    ii-V-i confusion

I am loving this, sitting here trying to soak it up like a sponge. I must say, though, these recent comments remind me of Major Major Major Major in Catch-22. Also, it's easy to understand why physics professors say "Hey, it ain't music theory."
