Beginner bass lessons

I think learning through video tutorials with associated lesson plans is the way to go.
i think it's a great way to get going --- save the face-to-face until you actually know something about the instrument and yourself as a player...then consider "real" one-on-one lessons with a competent teacher.

good luck with your "beginner bass lessons!"

Mark is a great teacher that seems to really take what he’s doing seriously, his comprehensive vids that aren’t for free are very pricey.

Honestly I have never priced his for sale stuff, because the amount of useful and well organized free material he has available is enough to keep a beginner busy for years. He even has a free lesson map at talkignbass.net

Mark I'm still waiting for my shill check

So I decided to start with a mix of free content from Bassbuzz and Talkingbass. I think both sites/YouTube pages offer really useful yet different methods of teaching. To me, Josh from Bassbuzz does a really god job of keeping it light and fun while Mark from Talkingbass takes a more technical approach. Using both sites together seems to work really well for me. I might also back it all up with the Studybass site.

After I get respectable chops I will probably start using Scott’s lessons…he is just too advanced for me at this stage.

I find it all enjoyable as hell and I look forward to playing every day after work. It’s the most stoked I’ve been about learning an instrument since I was a teenager.

I wrote a somewhat comprehensive overview of a number of resources available for the beginner/early intermediate bassists, and divided them into two categories:
Free here:
Based in Bass: Starting strong...part 1

and Paid here:
Based in Bass: Starting strong...part 2

Hope this helps!

Nice…lots of great reference information…. much appreciated.

I hit a road block in my progress with modes…I understand the nuts and bolts behind it, but applying modes practically to bass is proving to be difficult. I just need to be patient and grind it out.
