Who's never owned a Fender bass?

Do MIM count? Or only American made? The one in my profile pic if the original Mike Dirnt signature P bass, which is a Mexi. It is currently sitting in my garage in a case, minus the Badass II bridge, which is with my new CV70s Squier at a luthier. If MIM count then I own a (unplayable) Fender...

Once you go flat, you never go back

Just got a new bass (Classic Vibe 70s P) and decided to give flats a go. I was recommended the Cobalt flats and after reading a couple of reviews thought they were at least worth a try. They definitely feel different - almost like they’re plastic coated. So far I like them a lot but I’m not sure...

Would you be offended if a band asked you to play a P bass?

Do I get to keep the P bass? It depends on whether or not the BL (you...) are willing to listen objectively to whatever they show up with and then make the decision. If I show up with my Sub 5-string and you are immediately offended by the fact that it is a budget brand then I would be a little...

Anyone like black Basses with maple necks?

I would prefer a 5-string Jazz but besides that you are currently in possession of my dream basses. That is cool!

i ordered my husband a bass

Wow! You are amazing! I’m usually more of a p bass fan myself, and I am pretty much in love with the Classic Vibe 70s p bass (which seems to have disappear recently for some reason). But the 5-string version of the CV 70s Jazz is beautiful. If only any of my local stores had one in stock that I...

Mike Dirnt P - Stronger necks now or still bowing??

Very cool! I’m in New Zealand (where the hobbits live) so I imagine that by the time I paid for shipping and the currency conversion it would probably be cheaper just to get a new neck. But I will definitely do some homework to see if this is something that can be fixed locally (my whole country...

Mike Dirnt P - Stronger necks now or still bowing??

I’m pretty late to the party here but I currently have a 2001-2002ish Mike Dirnt MIM P in my garage that has a bow in the neck and a maxed out truss rod. It served me well for quite some time, and was only ever set up by professionals. All I know is that it has a bow and I am heartbroken.

The bar for playing out is set way to low

Each to their own. I would be way to embarrassed and frustrated to play in a band like that. But if they’re actually, objectively terrible then they will put themselves out of a job. If they have ongoing gigs then good on them.

Why aren't PJ basses more popular and more available?

Maybe a stupid question, but if you like the Squier, why not get a Squier? Maybe it means you want to make a few upgrades but you end up with exactly what you want and probably still come in at a fraction of the price of a MIA.

Bass in car during work day in winter?

Should be okay as long as you remember to put on its jacket, crack the window a little to let the air circulate, and leave a bottle of water and some snacks.

Were the Beatles the most "working class" of all rock bands?

The Beatles were a precursor to modern boy bands. It doesn’t scream “working class” to me, although maybe that was the image their producers were trying to find for them

I Want Fenders More and More The Older I Get

I alternate between Fender and Musicman but then occasionally I wonder if I could just get a Squier (I love the look of the classic vibe P) and a good set up. Fenders are timeless, and as I get older I feel like I’d rather just blend into the background

Poll: Why do I have a Tube Amp if everybody always takes me DI

If you’re playing gigs where the stage sound is only for you (and the band) then it would probably be much easier to get a small combo and then just run a DI. I’ve never understood lugging a huge amp and cabinet and then using in-ear monitors and a DI, but some people still insist on doing it...
