I think that they kinda want to challenge the listener in every aspect of listening to music(lyrical themes,music itself etc)

The best strings that i tried so far for metal, are: For nickel strings ghs boomers 40-95 (or 45-95 i don't remember exactly) and for stainless steel Robert Trujilo signature (50-102 i think. I'ts custom gauge)

I haven't tried any tapewounds, but from the flats i have tried chromes seem to be closer to what you want.

That depends on what you want. Personally i don't need an extra B string for what i am playing now, but that doesn't mean that i can't change my mind. So based on what you want/need now a 5 string bass is worth or it isn't.

Both are good for this purpose, but i prefer pyramid.

Try chromes, they are a great choice for first flats. Kinda bright in the beggining and they cut through the mix perfectly.You might also try some slapping if you like!

It's just what works for them, i suggest you try this tuning and see for yourself if it fits your playing style.
