    Confessions of a Flatwound convert...

Yep same here  At the gigs I've been swapping basses at different brackets. I have 2 Lakland 5's, one with slinky rounds, one with flat chromes. I run my own PA so have the opportunity to adjust the mix to my liking. I use an Avalon U5 for bass pre. I'm reverted back to roundwounds...

DI to the board - pre-efx or post-efx?

I would go bass into DI first - clean signal If using effects I would mic the cab So you end up with effects + clean blend to FOH I use a Lakland 55-02 > Avalon U5

So is the concesus that Ernie Ball rounds die too quick

+1 I find the Slinky's mellow out quite nicely, they lose a bit of zing after a few months but they still have my favorite tone.

What kind of strings do you use?

Ernie Ball Regular Slinky 45-130's on a Lakland 55-02

    Stingray into Avalon preamp

This is just a personal setting which I find works the best on my Lakland 5. I find taking out the mids cleans up the sound in the mix with lower distortion. On an active bass never run the volume flat out unless it's a temporary gain thing. Volume = 8 <> 9 Treble = 7 Mid = 3 Bass = 7

    Confessions of a Flatwound convert...

This post is really getting to me..... Since reading most of the replies over the last few weeks I've been a bit anxious to what strings I really should be using live. I have 2 x Lakland 5's, one strung with slinky rounds, the other with D'Addario chrome flats. Both sound great but if I...

Country bass players - what you using?

Wow, you've been out on the town :D So Brad Paisley's bassist must DI and run through sidefill. Would love to found out what DI or combination he's using...

Country bass players - what you using?

Can anyone add what some of the touring bass amp rigs are for Paisley, Urban, Rascal Flatts, Alan Jackson etc and others in their league. And, what outboard DI's they use if they don't use the DI's from their amps. Cheers......

    Tube subbing

    I followed this post and recommend it. The SVP-Pro is a noisy unit but I now have very minimal noise like any other high gain amp with the following tubes. V1 - JJ Tesla ECC83S (12ax7) V2 - " " " V3 - " " " V4 - JJ Tesla ECC82 (12au7) V5 - Electro Harmonix 12au7a/ECC82EH This is the only...

    How to advance

+1 Spot on Go and have a listen to your teacher in his band, or even something he has posted on MySpace. If his playing inspires you, you're on a winner.

Lakland 55-01 and 55-02 why is the big price jump?

+1 I have too agree here. I sold my Stingray 5 due to finances and downgraded to a cheaper Lakland 55-01. After a few gigs I realised this was more of an upgrade. The MM5 is still a great bass but the 55-01 sounds and feels so much nicer. For the money these are the bargain of the...

    Ampeg SVP-PRO Probs??

It is more likely a bad solder joint, but don't rule out the tube test first in case one of them is faulty. I had 1 faulty tube which crackled intermittently at high volume. I replaced the tubes with new JJ 12AX7's due to having noisy groove tubes. To quieten it down I put a nos GE 12AU7 in...

Table saw accident, now learning how to play with just 1 fret finger..

+1 Sounds like the better alternative, no limitations except the relearning. Inspirational to see you back into it so early.

Going from 4 to 5 (merged threads)

I switched to a Stingray 5 and love it. I only miss the 4 due to the string spacing and ease of slapping. On the 5 I have to quickly mute the B while slapping the E as the B resonates from the thumb attack, don't like the lack of freedom with this :hmm: In modern country / current...

What bass do you want next?

I currently have a Stingray 5 which is amazing. Would like to own another 5 string, either a quality Lakland or Sadowsky.
