I own a Harley Benton club

I received my HBZ-2005FL yesterday, here are some initial thoughts. It took a little longer than 2 weeks to arrive to the UK from Thomann, I gather it's usually a bit quicker but there was a 'random customs inspection' or something like that. Either way, not a big deal and shipping was free. In...

I own a Harley Benton club

Hello all, hope you are well and don't mind me dropping in on the thread uninvited. I'm excited to have ordered a new bass for the first time in almost 10 years, an HBZ 5-string fretless. I'm really looking forward to it, even though the idea of playing an unlined fretless makes me a little...

    Basses and genres

In my head there are a bunch of tropes about which basses and genres go together. I think the strongest associations in my mind would probably be: Modern metal - Dingwall (5+ strings, darkglass, pick) Gospel - Something 6 string and boutiquey Punk - Stingray or P

Philosophy: Do I really NEED a FRETLESS bass?

Obviously it's diamond, the hardest metal known to man.

Which pick gauge do you prefer?

I use Dunlop "The Wedge" picks in 1.0mm. I bought a huge bag of them a while back for guitar playing, and after switching over pretty much full-time to bass I found them perfect. They're marginally bigger and sharper than typical teardrop picks which I think suits bass playing just right...

    Maple vs. Rosewood

Well, since this test wasn't blinded or anything like that, we can't really draw too much from it, but for what it's worth I could hear a difference between the two sound clips. Maybe the fact that the tone pot one one bass was at 12:00 and on the other bass it was at 6:00 had something to do...

One Jazz, One P. Which one gets the roundwounds; which gets the flats?

Rounds on the Jazz, flats on the Precision, then sell the Precision with flats on and buy another Jazz and put rounds on that too. Yup.

Fender signature that MUST be made!!! NOW!!!

I think this one comes up a lot in this sort of thread, but a Troy Sanders P would be cool. The silverburst finish is just great, and I like the double-J pickup in the bridge position and what looks like huge jumbo frets...

The costume is hilarious, ....and the playing is pretty cool

It stands for "Hentai Josou" which translates to something like "Pervert Crossdresser"

New vs Old Strings - Sound Comparison

Hello guys, I was interested in assessing peoples' perception of the difference in sound between new and old strings in a fairly objective manner. I've recorded a few samples (sorry for the poor playing, I'm a beginner) and it would be cool if you could vote for which sample sounds like it's...

There's no reason not to, is there?

    For Those Who Slap

I like the percussive, driving feel of slap bass when used in a rock context

Record live audio/video plus backing track a la youtube?

    >I could always dump my playing and the track into separate tracks in Logic, but it seems like there must be a simpler way to do this...? This seems like a pretty simple way to do it! Just put the backing song on one track and have it play back as you record to another track.
