I searched but didn't find anything on this...

I use an iMac, which has a built-in camera, and a Mackie Onyx Satellite Firewire audio interface.

I'm pretty familiar with recording audio on my computer using Logic etc., but I've never done video recordings.

I want to do the stupid youtube thing and record my audio and video playing along with a recording. I want to go direct, no mics.

I played the track on iTunes, and used iMovie to record myself playing along. The video and the live playing recorded nicely, but the iTunes output was not. How do I get both the live sound and the computer output into the recording?

I could always dump my playing and the track into separate tracks in Logic, but it seems like there must be a simpler way to do this...?

This seems like a pretty simple way to do it! Just put the backing song on one track and have it play back as you record to another track.

I want to do the same thing.

I'm on a Windows 7 64bit laptop with a Tascam US-144MKII.

Set up was easy. Drivers installed correctly. Monitoring my bass and backing track works fine.

However:

1) I use Audacity - I've loaded an MP3 into Audacity, and then record along with the song - sounds fine using the headphones monitor through the Tascam US-144. But when I play it back on the computer, my bass is about a 1/2 second behind. Irritating.
How do I fix this? I've tried adjusting all the latency settings...nothing...

2) I have a built in webcam on my laptop - there has to be a way to designate the audio source - I don't want to the microphone to pic up the sound. So, in effect, I would like to be able to

a) record my bass
b) play along with a song
c) use the resulting audio in sync with the video

How is this done?

Thanks!

I`ve done it before. I think what I did was record myself playing along with the tune with a camera, and DI`ing into my interface at the same time. Mixed the original audio track and my recorded track in Cubase. Pulled the video up in Windows Movie Maker and imported the Cubase MP3. Aligned the MP3 with the vid audio using the graph. Then turned original vid volume all the way down, MP3 all the way up. Mix your live sound and DI however you want. Save / export. Worked perfectly.
